PowerPoint 4.0 - Causes CHK Error & Crashes OS 8.1

I’d guess Microsoft never tested that version of Office on a Mac IIfx running OS8.1. Maybe you should revert to an official MacOS release for more reliable results.

    Mac IIfx Restoration Issues

On boards with surface mount components on two sides, the components must be placed and soldered one side at a time. Typically the less complex side is placed and soldered first (bottom side in this case), then the board is flipped over and the more complex side is placed and soldered (top...

LocalTalk cables: crossed-over wiring or straight-through?

bigmessowires, The straight thru serial cable is likely meant to be used with a manual switch box such as https://www.cablesdirect.com/store/p/2250.aspx

Oops! I may have messed up (Broken LCIII?)

ZuluSCSI works great - I wouldn’t mess with spinning SCSI hard drives again, unless it was a removable cartridge drive.

Overclock instability with later Ethernet drivers?

Is the Ethernet chip clocked off the CPU crystal Q650? On the C610 it is, and overclocking the CPU will make Ethernet unstable.

    Help Identifying Macintosh Notebook

PowerBooks were too expensive for schools, but an LC with attached screen would probably be far less expensive. Too bad Apple never built it.

    3400c Service?

According not MacTracker the 3400C has an internal ATA hard drive and you can see in the video above it’s attached with a custom flex cable (29 minute mark). It should be easier to swap in a larger ATA drive.

    Archiving F/A-18 Hornet version installers

Falcon MC utilized a word from the manual as copy protection. I think later versions of Falcon did this also. That’s the likely reason the boxes were stored seperately from the game disc/ manual.

    Trouble Initializing/Writing 400k (Single Sided) Disks on a PowerBook 3400c Running 7.6

I never had much luck using 400K/800K disks when my preG3 PowerMacs were new, much less 25 years later. Apple had phased out 400K/800K drives in Macs around 1988. If you want to use floppies, the 1.4 MB HD disks are a lot more reliable.

    Mac ii flashing green video.

Check the 660AV post last updated yesterday. There is a table on the post, suggesting switches 1 and 4 on, the others off will produce a 640 x 480, 66 Hz, sync on green picture. This is the standard Mac II signal, though other settings may produce a higher rez picture.

Quadra 610 - Onboard Video Ram?

Confirming the 610 has 512KB of VRAM soldered to the logic board. There are also two memory slots where you can install a pair of 256KB VRAM modules, bumping the VRAM to 1 MB. There is some debate on whether a PRAM battery is needed on this model, but it couldn’t hurt installing one.
