Run SCSIProbe to confirm your CDROM drives have different ID’s

Nice finds. I bet the CDROM works fine. Don’t know about the external drive, but if it’s not working you can mount a BlueSCSI or a ZuluSCSI in it.

I’m guessing the non-working adapter had liquid damage at some point in the past. New are available on eBay for $15.

A MacBook G4 is an excellent machine for this purpose because you can still browse the internet and download programs for your Classic Mac, using the TenFourFox or InterWebPPC web browsers and write them to floppy disk.

If you have an older Mac that runs OSX 10.4.x, then you can write 1.4 MB disks with your Imation SuperDisk.

Apple Keyboard II M0487. There is an Escape key next to the space bar - not a spot I would expect.

How do you Force Quit in System 7.6.1? My Apple keyboard has no Escape key, just a big power key at the top of the keyboard.

FYI G4 PowerMacs and iMacs and newer, used the eject key at the right corner of the keyboard to open and close the CD/DVD drive tray. I don’t know if the G3 PowerMac used the same method.

For PowerPC 603/603e/604 machines, software compatibility is better with OS8.6.

Someone made a video of a 5 1/4 inch 88 MB Syquest drive with the metal cover of the drive removed The 5 1/4 inch 44 MB Syquest drive sounds the same.

I don’t think you can lump all PowerPC Macs in the same category. Some G3 and G4 Macs are still working fine.

Syquest 44 MB removable hard drives are pretty inexpensive and have a long life reputation, as long as the carts are not mishandled or stored at extreme temps.

Try pressing and holding the c key on boot up, to force booting from the CD

Some Macs of that era will not boot properly without the 3.6V PRAM battery installed. Also you may try resetting the PRAM by holding down the Command Option P R keys just after switching on the power. Hold the keys down until you hear the bong sound and repeat.

The BlueSCSI appears to be working properly. Do you have another external SCSI drive you can temporarily attach to the computer, to confirm the SCSI port is operating?
