Could it be a power issue? Recapping the PSU and the logic board might also help. Aanother way to find out more would be to swap the PSU from the working si.
The version hosted on Macintosh Garden generates an error when I try to expand it with Stuffit Expander 5.5. Does anyone have a .sit file that can be expanded? Version 3.0.1 works but throws an error on my Macintosh SE with the Gemini Ultra accelerator ("The control panel "virtual 3.0" cannot be...
You wrote that nothing happens when you pushed the power button. Which button did you push? The one on the keyboard or the one on the back of the Quadra near the power plug?
An internal HD is not needed to do further testing. Your BlueSCSI can hold a couple of hard disk and CD ROM images from...
No, the Quadra 700 should shut down completely. Did you try a clean install of the system? Or with another working PSU? I am not sure if the shutdown behaviour is fully managed by hard- or software, hence the thought.
I measured 10V. After checking the plug to the fan again I noticed it would not sit properly on the pins. After crimping a new one, the fan is now working. Thanks for all the help here!
What solutions are out there for the Macintosh II/x/fx series? I saw this https://www.instructables.com/Macintosh-IIfx-Modern-Power-Supply-Replacement/ but am wondering if there is a less complicated approach or solution.
The power plug on my riser board does not drive the original nor a new replacement fan with 12V anymore. Is this power source controlled by a temperature regulator that only enables voltage upon reaching a certain temperature limit?
And another update: The CRT went dark again. I noticed I could reproduce the issue by turning the brightness knob. It's now been removed, taken apart and cleaned with Deoxid. Seems to work now reliably. Let's see...
I'm adding a full view picture of the logic board. Ignore the ROMs, they are from a Plus. I also added a 68000 CPU following @Bolle suggestion, though no further progress with it.
Is it normal that the LBs of the Plus have a diode factory installed at CR1? I thought not (as it would provide...
@PacificState great write-up, thanks! I'm going through the same process right now. Regarding the fan: I noticed only 5V on the PSU plugs for the fan, though on your picture, I saw your new fan is a 12V fan. Does it actually work?
Thanks @lobust . The Mac Plus works with a known working (other) Logic Board. Sorry for not writing that clearer in my post earlier.
Also, the 68000 CPU of the stock Plus runs on 8MHz.
Here's the logic boar in full view. I bootet it as follows:
- without the 68000
- with the ROMs from a known working Plus.
- without the ROMs
Same results as described earlier for each of the two tests scenarios. I now ordered a 68000 CPU to test the board with it too.
I managed to power the board up and got this screen. Any thoughts what the issue could be? No startup sounds at all. The analog board is known working and was fully recapped. The Mac works without the accelerator.
