    Recommendations for reliable storage?

Thank you for the suggestions - I'm glad I'm not the only one, and appreciate the sanity check. I can try capturing to a ZuluSCSI - I have an external one full of CD ISOs. Most of my SD cards are 8GB SanDisk Enterprise ones, so high quality, but not nearly large enough. I have some 32GB ones I...

    Recommendations for reliable storage?

So, most of my vintage macs have SD or CF based storage. Generally it works, but I have noticed that sometimes it gets a little squirrel-ey. (My BlueSCSI SD cards all seem to need regular reformatting, for example.) Today, on a lark, I tried capturing a VHS cassette using the built in AV card...

ITXPlus: A ITX Sized Macintosh Plus Logicboard Reproduction

This is the stuff I’m using: https://a.co/d/3Oe5oMb It’s supposedly for circuit boards, but with all the counterfeiting, who knows? Do you have any brand recommendations? I see DigiKey sells a pine rosin based flux made by MG chemicals, and they presumably don’t stock “questionable” brands.

ITXPlus: A ITX Sized Macintosh Plus Logicboard Reproduction

Hi. I received the kit I ordered and am almost ready to test it, but I had a couple questions I hope someone can answer: 1) Are the "long pin" pin headers on the port board 19mm or 17mm? (I lost one. My ruler says they're 18mm on the nose, so it's off, but I don't know which way.) 2a) Any...

    Mac Plus Video Out Options

I know the internal video signals of the Mac Plus and other B&W compacts are... weird. I've looked into the RGBtoHDMI, and I know that's an option, but I'd honestly kind of like a more "period appropriate" analog output. Did anybody ever design a circuit that can convert the internal signaling...

    End of battery-bombed SE/30 restoration?

They have a variety of uses. I originally bought mine to find gaps and holes in my foundation where cold air was seeping in.

    Restomod’ed M0110A (WIP)

Resin key caps (at least using the resin I had on hand) ended up being kind of brittle, although they LOOKED great. Printing in PLA w/ ultra-high quality settings instead. It's fine, and the stems don't explode when you try to push them onto a switch. Option/Command and Delete keys were easy...

    Restomod’ed M0110A (WIP)

It was a pull I got on eBay. I’ve been reading and I think I can hack together a replacement chip with a Pi2040. I think. I’ll definitely post here if I figure that out, even in part - I’m not a great programmer, but if I get stuck maybe somebody else can bring it over the finish line...

    Restomod’ed M0110A (WIP)

I think my New Year’s resolution may be trying to reverse engineering the controller chip.

    Restomod’ed M0110A (WIP)

Started with a busted M0110A. Replaced the controller chip. (Socketed the replacement.) Hard wired a replacement cable. Cherry Blues plus Kailh style switch sockets and short wires. Now I just have a top case to remodel and a bunch of 3D printer work to do. It works though!

    Troubleshooting a broken M0110A Keyboard?

Anybody have (or know where I can get) wiring diagrams for a Mac Plus Extended keyboard? I have one that's just a doorstop; other keyboards work fine with the same Plus / cable, but this one does nothing. I'm specifically curious about how to test that big microcontroller. (Would I need, like...

    Monitor Backlight Replacement? (Dell 2001FP)

I have a Dell 2001FP (1600x1200 max resolution, VGA input) that I've had a lot of luck using with old Macs - it's worked great with everything from a IIsi to a modern MacBook Pro. But it's pretty dim and yellowish. I guess the fluorescent backlight degrades over time? Most older monitors I've...

    6360 questions?

Got a 6360 and ported over some parts I had from a 6400 motherboard. Was curious about this 60 pin connector (see attached pic) on the AV capture card - anybody know what it does? (I’m guessing it’s for the TV tuner?) Also, I have a Netgear FA311 PCI Ethernet card, which came out of the same...

Help With Mac IIsi - Fail after couple of minutes

Has the memory soldered onto the main board been removed or replaced? If it goes bad it can cause issues - it’s used for VRAM, iirc. I think you can just remove it completely and just use what’s in the slots instead. But check me on that.

Mac Plus keyboard and mouse options

This is actually pretty doable but if you can find a “broken” Plus keyboard and steal the circuitry, it’s easier. The main issue is that new switches and stuff don’t all line up perfectly with the holes on the board, so you end up needing some bits and pieces. I bought a broken keyboard a...

    SE/30: Yet another scsi issue

I ended up narrowing that down to a defective termination on the old HDD I was trying to use. Other devices work fine, as long as that drive wasn’t part of the system. The information about the VIA1/2 chips is interesting though; I’ll definitely be filing that away if I have further issues. 😎

KEYSPAN USB to Serial adapter G3 PowerBook

I was able to use mine with an ImageWriter II, but never tried it with a MIDI device. I ended up buying two - the first one came defective. Fortunately they’re not rare or expensive.

Picky QS G4 / PCI SATA card?

So it turns out the card and its design are mostly to blame. Something about the way the cheap cards handle initialization or something - different voltages have to be available at different times and the QS G4 kinda freaks out. The four port card I have, has a VRM bodged onto it that makes it...
