Macintosh Portable is suddenly flaky / unstable, not sure what's up

Mm, you can consider to lay some metallic/aluminum tape inside along the entire diagonal, covering the crack and more to give it more strength. Glueing a thin sheet of metal or plastic can also help, still I can not recall how much space you have. The pros is that it's invisible and it preserves...

    Macintosh SE/30 with a VDR-2a video card!

Congratulations, it's great machine. The "made in France" sticker (of course it was not) and the french flag in the desktop make it all a bit weird, I could guess the previous owner was a french guy/lady leaving in Japan

    Zapping PRAM

yes, but instead of cycling x times option-command-pr, just switch off the battery and restart.

    Zapping PRAM

Since it seems a recurring issue with some Mac, why not hacking the battery holder and adding a switch, accessibile from outside, that disconnects the battery?

    Macintosh IIci

Thank, for the IIsi can be tricky because an ATX does not fit in, not even a SFX.

    Macintosh IIci

got it guys, tks @joshc , I'll go for the Seasonic SS250-SU I'll later undo the PSU of the Mac IIsi, currently with the +12V PSU + picoATX I'll try to save the filtering circuit and the relay for the monitor plug driven by the +12V, I think it does not hurt if the Seasonic has it'd owns, is it?

    Macintosh IIci

What are the options I have for a new PSU? The ASTEC PSU states: Output +5V SB 1mA +5V 12A -12V 1.0A +12V 1.5A Total power is 90W=60W+12W+18W Let assume that I'll not use a HD and have one VGA card + NIC card. I'm thinking of a 150W +12V PSU (typically for LED strips) and a 150W picoATX...

    Vintage lot (of work)

what about the magic sponge? I use it with care because it can whiten the plastic since it's abrasive, someone I recall used it in place of the retrobright technique @Pushpull76 , from Italy here as well, nice conquest

    Mac IIfx

it's already a tantalum in mine so, once cleaned it might work out of the box ... assuming the PSU is fine (unlikely)

    Macintosh IIci

tks, guys. I recapped the PSU but unfortunately it does not work, shortcutting pin 9 and 10 does not starts it up and in any case it does not provide the +5V standby. I will inspect it further for burn-out ares or evident damages, but I don't have competence to make a diagnosis. I don't like it...

Hi mates, this is a good period ... I got a Mac IIfx, not bombed with no caps leakages. It's in its way, so I have only pictures at the moment. I see there is a: - Apple 820-0400-06 630-0400 Macintosh Display Card with expansion SIMMs - Nubus rev 3 Network card with RJ45, no precise...

    Macintosh IIci

After a first round of cleaning and the SMD caps removed, I'll investigate the axial one later. Yeah, there is work to be done here ... quite some :( , still I do not see damages. I just hope I don't need to remove the ICs to clean them properly because I see lot of gunk below. The PSU does not...
