So... I found one of these in a SE without - you guessed it - the breakout board...
It does have a 16pin ribbon cable - which I do have (just removed for the photo). ANY idea if your MacTwister would work with it?

Apparently (@max1zzz can confirm?) the Dataman 48LV does as well. I just bagged one for about $150 - not for this, but for something old it also supports.
Certainly fair! Trouble is I either need to ship to UK or to US (folks) and collect - the former a matter of add'l co$t, the latter a matter of 'when'. Please serve the local interest first while I work out my plans for a US visit. If I miss out c'est la vie!
Have you given the pins on the PDS connector a good [IPA] 'scrub'? Of course, don't be too rough, but the above makes me wonder if it might be less-than-perfect electrical contact with the PDS slot? 🤔
What about setting up a DSLR (on tripod?) and just videoing the display connected to the Apple II? Not super sophisticated, but with a zoom lens and rigid setup (and DSLR/lens on manual focus) it could work?

So... work's a time drain atm, so took me 'til today to do some testing. Here are the results (using HDT 4.5.2) :
Upper left is my ACARD with a 8Gb DoM, lower left is my B&W's onboard IDE targeting a 160Gb rust spinner, on the right, the Adaptec/SIL3112 targeting an old 64Gb SSD I had to hand...
Top two are Rev.A, bottom two Rev.C. I've not looked closely at the chip numbers, what's more obvious are the (c) dates... Top two (c)1997, bottom (c)1998.
