Early Macintosh home brew 4MB memory upgrade board development

I was wondering a bit how this was done. I soldered DIP Sockets (round type) to the top of the IC's (UF4, U11F and U11G). I had tried the lighter pin version, but found that the pins from the board were a bit stiff and would not fit properly. It's not pretty, but works. There wasn't much flex...

Early Macintosh home brew 4MB memory upgrade board development

The SST39SF040-70-4C-PHE are 32 pin which will only work with the ROM-inator PCB, but the ST M27c512 is 28 pin and is 512kb that matches the current ROM socket. Or I can pick up what ever you recommend that works with the RAM expansion card.

I have the original ROM from my other 512k board that now has a ROM-inator. Probably similar to the other board. it has similar Hi - 342-0220-A Lo - 342-0221-A I also am putting together a BOMW ROM-inator board that I had made recently from JLCPCB and have several of the recommended ROM's for...

Test fit. Very nice fitment! I just need to place headers on the board and then run jumper wires.

I have all the components installed on the board. I just need to start adding the headers. I should be able to mount the PCB to the motherboard early next week.

Thankfully I have two Mac 512k boards. I was planning on installing the RAM expansion card on the one without the ROM-inator as a test.

Early Macintosh home brew 4MB memory upgrade board development

I was just looking at the BOMW ROM-inator install instructions and it uses the same two pins as the RAM expansion card (pins 45 and 46. So this would mean two wires connected with those pins. Just trying to make sure I get this correct. Thanks again for the new information.

This is really helpful information. Thank you. I will be starting to build my board this week.

Early Macintosh home brew 4MB memory upgrade board development

All my parts are in. I am preparing to build two expansion cards. I did create a photo parts location with pin locations. (please correct me if this is wrong). I have all the proper headers, but am wondering about stacking and proper header height so the board can clear the case. Are headers...

Early Macintosh home brew 4MB memory upgrade board development

Very cool. Thanks for the info. I purchased the correct headers for J11 and J12. I must have bought the last ones. Same Amazon vendor had listing on eBay as well. Both are out of stock. https://www.ebay.com/itm/134627074915 I ordered enough components from Mouser to make two. The RAM chips...

Early Macintosh home brew 4MB memory upgrade board development

Are there any photos of version 3 completed? I am looking to compare parts. The Github page has a dead link for photos. I ordered from the Mouser cart (thank you Joopmac) except that J11 and J12 headers are backordered and not in stock. I am guessing this header may work found on Amazon...

Early Macintosh home brew 4MB memory upgrade board development

This is a great project. I just ordered version 3 from JLCPCB today. I have a Mac 512k with BOMW ROM-inator.

    Mac Plus/SE Performer accelerator build

I was finally successful with installing the card. I used the suggestions for programing the GAL chips. My biggest issue for not being able to get this card working really was my soldering. Those PLCC chips sit directly on top of the pads. I made sure this time to connect the pins to the pads...

Need help with Bolle Mac IIfx recreation board... No Chime, No Reset

Thanks. I have a Mac IIx that is not booting. It's a no boot chime, no video situation. There is activity on the board that my FLIR camera picks up. I will either purchase one or make one depending on which is the inexpensive option. It's $70 and with shipping it is close to $100, so thinking...

Need help with Bolle Mac IIfx recreation board... No Chime, No Reset

Thanks for the advice. It's been frustrating and I am grateful for the help from everyone. I have learned a lot with this project and I am happy that I was finally able to get both of my boards booting properly. I was wondering. Is your ROM SIMM Interposer (das blinkenlights) available? Thanks...

Need help with Bolle Mac IIfx recreation board... No Chime, No Reset

I finally have great news with my Mac IIFX boards. I was finally able to get them to boot. It was definitely my soldering. I learned that dulling down the shiny new pads with a fiberglass pen helps with the solder flowing much better. Soldering the PLCC chips is really something to pay attention...

    Mac IIfx startup circuit

When I was trying to figure out my Startup/Shutdown issues with my Mac IIFX I took measurements to see if they were getting proper voltages to the NAND chip (UJ18). You definitely have a broken trace leading up to the power on button. You will just have to follow the schematic. With the...

Need help with Bolle Mac IIfx recreation board... No Chime, No Reset

This is such a great project, but at this time I simply cannot recommend it for novice users like myself. I'm a photojournalist/editor, not a engineer. There just isn't much help for this board. I have tried here and on Facebook groups searching for answers why these boards will not produce even...

Need help with Bolle Mac IIfx recreation board... No Chime, No Reset

These two boards are still not booting. No chime, no video. I have added solder to each PLCC IC (More than what I usually place) just to ensure I have a connection to the board. The pins on all the remaining chips like the Memory Controller, SCSI, NuBus etc... all have continuity from pin to...
