It'll likely clock to 40 with minimal issues, especially as there was a 40mhz version. An 060 won't work in any Mac regardless, without modifying Apple's ROM (no one has made any progress to this end even after 20+ years)

In response to the original topic, as stated, the 3.3v is for the PCI bus. That said, the earlier 6360 and 6400 era boards should need it if you need to drive a pci device, while the 6500 boards may not. The boards SHOULD work fine regardless without 3.3v, you just won't be able to run any PCI...

yes, that Turbo 601 you have will work in IIsi (with adapter), IIcx, IIci (from experience), probably a couple others (as Charlieman notes), but not the quadra's- they have a different PDS slot both form factor and electronically.
