The bezel arrived today. It fits like it was built for it. :-D All in all it seems no problem to fit non-Iomega drives.
Maybe I'll paint the drives dust cover and face plate black or better dark grey at a later time.
Unfortunately access to the open firmware does not work when the G3 is in the "black screen" state. Only Command+v works to bring it "back to life". Today I switched the graphics card to an Radeon 7000. It should be from an G4 but it wasn't working at all in the G3. Probably this was an...
My "new" B&W tower is getting shape. I upgraded it to 1 GB RAM, found a working USB2 card and replaced the hard drive with an SSD. Also a "new" Radeon 7000 is on order. One issue I noticed is a little bit strange. I reinstalled both OS 9.2.2 and 10.4.11 in a dual boot configuration. OS9 on the...
I got myself a nice B&W G3 tower. I'll upgrade it with parts I have on hand. I have a NEC made internal ZIP drive I put inside the G3. But the drive sticks out around 5 mm. I dont think thats gonna work with the drive bezel I have to aquire. The screw holes do align and there is no other method...
I cant believe it. Probably the fault was a dodgy solder joint. I reflowed around the transformer area and this did the trick. But there is work to do and this is what I'm afraid to do. The picture is shifted towards the right side and towards the bottom. I think I saw some videos on adjusting...
Parts arrived today. I replaced CR21 and also the bipolar cap which I did not had at hand first time. After reinstalling the AB I now get a checkerboard pattern. Progress :) Maybe it did this all the time but reflowing the AB a second time helped get it working. Unfortunately replacing the two...
The cable harness is fine. It has continuity on all pins. My one has no inbuild fuse as some seems to have. I checked a few components which were related to the 12V generation. CR21 has continuity in both directions. Thats wrong. Also i measure a resistance of about 44 Ohm, also in both...
Yes I reflowed nearly all connections on the analog board. I did not check the cable. Will do it. The connector on the logic board side is okay. No cracked joints.
Hello there, I got a Mac Plus of unknown condition recently and I'm attempting to revive it. The logic board does look good after a little deep clean. The analog board is what makes me trouble. I recapped it with Panasonic caps, replaced the Rifa and tried to start it. The moment I turn on the...
I'm not sure if the problem is the logic board. I disassembled the remaining bits further. On the back side of the analog board I spotted some suspicious areas. Right under the flyback and under the large transformer it looks like cap leakage. Maybe this is only flux, but why is this not on the...
I now freed the analog board in the hopes to spot an bulging or leaking cap. But nothing. All looks exceptional clean. The machine must have been died right after warranty expired. Also the CRT and the anode cap are nearly free of the usual black sud.
Are there any caps to look after? There...
I got two early 2000 iMac G3. Both of them are in different need of repair. One powers up perfectly but has a cracked case and a scratched screen. The other one looks way better but does not power on. I could make one good machine out of the two but rather would try to repair the non-working...
