Quadra 700 Death Chime - RAM Sockets?

Thanks techknight. Gotta get my hands on an oscilloscope, but that's probably something worth having more generally anyway. I'll likely open up the power supply and make note of the caps with an aim to order some replacements.

Quadra 700 Death Chime - RAM Sockets?

Well, I don't feel like this is any closure to the tale, but here's the state of things. I put everything back together and, despite cleaning the board thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol, I continued to get the Chime of Death when booting. So, in a desperate attempt, I installed and removed the...

Quadra 700 Death Chime - RAM Sockets?

I washed a Colour Classic board in the dishwasher, dried it and then let it sit buried in rice for about 24 hours. It worked extremely well and I might end up doing that with this Q700 board if my attempt with isopropyl alcohol doesn't work out. I would consider it a 'last-ditch' effort, though...

Quadra 700 Death Chime - RAM Sockets?

I removed it for the bath, yeah. :)

Quadra 700 Death Chime - RAM Sockets?

No actual updates except to say that I cleaned the board this morning - this time with a near-submersion method (I didn't have a container wide enough or enough isopropyl alcohol to fill a deeper one to submerge the whole board all at once). I isolated different parts of the board and went over...

Quadra 700 Death Chime - RAM Sockets?

I should say that the stock RAM (20MBs) had been working perfectly well and then not. I have another batch of 20MBs as well, but none of those worked either. Tried my newer 4x 16MB SIMMs also. The MB looks clean as a whistle. Maybe I'll give it an isopropyl alcohol bath soon. I've had the MB...

Quadra 700 Death Chime - RAM Sockets?

I get a chime of death every time I boot the Quadra 700 (just randomly started happening). I narrowed it down to a RAM issue. I've tried every variation of chips in each socket (with chips known to work in other machines). Is it possible for the entire array of RAM sockets to cease working...

    Tantalum Cap sizes for LCIII

Yeah, the B sizes work. I am actually partial to B over C. In some instances, C can be a tight fit. So yeah, what unity said. :)

Colour Classic Not Booting After Correct Sequence & Recap

Thanks, uniserver!! And thanks for the suggestions. :) I found iMic's diagrams to be invaluable while I was sitting the caps. I also bought some more tools to assist me this time. On the advice of others in my SE/30 thread, I tossed my cheap soldering iron and bought a temperature regulated...

Colour Classic Not Booting After Correct Sequence & Recap

I remember reading in a couple places of an official Apple utility that helps you calibrate your screen as well as a third-party app. Anyone know what either of those is called? Thanks!

Colour Classic Not Booting After Correct Sequence & Recap

Well, I replaced every capacitor on the analogue board but one (I bought the wrong physical size, and it doesn't fit) AND the CC has normal colours again!! Can someone remind me of the utilities available to calibrate the colour of the screen? Cheers!

    SE/30 recap disaster

Well, that's all extremely informative. Many thanks for the detailed responses. It was a hard, expensive and ultimately destructive lesson to learn. I'm intrigued by Macdrone's suggestion to simply snip the axials and solder new caps onto the existing leads. That seems the safest route in my...

    SE/30 recap disaster

So, I got myself into a bit of a bind. Everything was going perfectly well with the recap of my SE/30's logic board until I got to the axial caps. A combination of tight fits and too much heat has led to a non-functional motherboard. The symptoms are that the computer boots, but there's no...

Colour Classic Not Booting After Correct Sequence & Recap

Great work on the CC revival! I'm glad everything is looking good for you. In regards to my colour issues, I'll likely recap the analogue board and see where I'm at after that. You're correct, though, I'll likely have have to reset the colours back to where they were, as my adjustments will have...

Colour Classic Not Booting After Correct Sequence & Recap

Hey uni, that's exactly what I'm aiming to do sometime next week. I've looked carefully at the analogue board and I don't see any major surprises (unlike iMic's first encounter), but it's very likely a re-cap job that's needed to fix the colour issues. Once that's done, I'm hopeful that...

Colour Classic Not Booting After Correct Sequence & Recap

Hello again. I'll be in a position to recap the A/B sometime next week. Just had a quick question before I get started. Are there any known differences between North American and European boards? I only ask because I want to use the very helpful capacitor map and list already produced (scroll...

What cable for Wacom Digitizer SD-311e?

In your experience, was that ADB connection typically on the back or the side of the tablet?

What cable for Wacom Digitizer SD-311e?

Ah. I guess I read that wrong: 'I've never seen a Wacom product for a Mac that did not use ADB.' I see now that you mean that this model is the anomaly. Yeah...it's definitely a Mac model. The guy has all the original Mac drivers floppies, etc. But as you say, ADB is not readily apparent. I was...

    64MB SIMMS in LC 550?

Impressive stuff there, uni! Thanks for the link to the 128MB SIMM. I may need to find an alternative, though, as their shipping costs (~£25) are a bit steep for me, given that I would need - at most - one or two chips. In any case, I found this, but can't tell if it's double-height. In which...
