Yup - that's right. The new hard drive didn't work. Neither does the old hard drive now. I've tried the usual (zap pram). It's dead for internal SCSI - although external SCSI still works. Which is bizarre - since the LC Macs only have one SCSI controller chip.

I have a Quantum Viking II hard drive which I originally used in my PowerMac 9600 (I think - after all this time my memory fails me slightly, it might have been my G3). I don't have the 9600 any more. Is there any chance I could install it in my LCIII? What jumper settings would I need?

Nope. As I say, the PSU looks pristine. I had a RIFA failure on an Acorn - and the computer definitely didn't work (mind you, that RIFA failure didn't so much have a crack as a blast radius). No leaking or bulging caps. Is there a diagnostic guide to help me get this PSU working again?

Yup. I’ve checked those manuals, and I know the rules for when and where to terminate for the Mac. It’s the additional settings for termination that those drives support which confuse the hell out of me!

Do you know what the correct termination settings should be for a Mac? Beyond just “terminate the last device in the chain”. These drives have several termination blocks covering what gets terminated and when. Even by SCSI standards it’s a mess!
