Micron Xceed SE/306-48 and SE/30 issue

I've now added mine to PLD Archive too: https://wiki.pldarchive.co.uk/index.php?title=Micron_XCeed_SE/306-48 I found a pic of an SE/306-48 with the 20X8 and 20X10 chips, so they do exist in the wild - but seem comparatively rare compared to those fitted with 22V10s.

    croissantking's conquests

I fixed up a broken Micron Xceed SE/306-48 video card this weekend - turned out to be a trio of faulty GAL chips. Full journey documented here.

Micron Xceed SE/306-48 and SE/30 issue

Now that my card is operational, I've been able to test out the JEDEC files attached above. 7 out of the 9 I compiled fully work, whilst one partially works and another results in a non-operational card. ChipFunctionWorks? U1Pixel TimerYes but with glitch - see photo U22Data ShifterYES...

    Interware Booster 30-SE50F Info Dump

I am testing out your Booster 2.0 (actually 2.1) with my newly repaired Xceed SE/306-48 card. Initially, on one of my SE/30 boards, I saw problems - would get to the grey screen, but then sad Mac and chimes of death. I wondered if perhaps the two upgrades were not fully compatible. But now I am...

Micron Xceed SE/306-48 and SE/30 issue

Aaand... the card is fixed. I burned the JEDECs I recently compiled to a set of GALs, and swapped them all in. At first, it was not looking hopeful, but after fiddling around with different combinations of the old and new chips I got a working output. The working combination is shown in the...

Need help diagnosing my PowerBook 170…

Yeah, this is one of the reasons it’s tricky to work on these.

    PowerBook 1400 - not booting

The 166MHz card will only work on logic boards with the newer ROM version, but the 117MHz should work in any. I’d suspect bad contact - try Deoxit

LaserWriter IIsc (and maybe others) Easter Egg

Is it possible that part of the Easter egg design is that it gets printed?

Apple Color Display M1212 - No picture after recap

These joints look like they could use a reflow.

Apple Color Display M1212 - No picture after recap

Can’t see what you’re referring to, please could you indicate it on the photo? Edit: oh yes. I assume OP has scraped back a bit of the trace and soldered the lead to it?

Apple Color Display M1212 - No picture after recap

It almost sounds like a dry solder joint somewhere that was marginal before the recap and is now completely broken.

    Quark XPress 3.32/4 document conversion

I thought it was rather a fun ask, shame my iBook couldn’t help in the end.

    color classic grey screen

@cheesestraws - maybe you could donate one of your many surplus CC boards to this user? :) If I had to guess - I’d say it was a rotted trace or via in the video circuitry area. A photo of the grey screen would be useful - I’m imagining 1-bit grey, like a checkerboard pattern.

    Quark XPress 3.32/4 document conversion

Yeah that's odd. I looked at the file header (first line of code) and it states MMXPR3... so it does look like version 3/4... but it definitely refuses to open (I only tried the first file).

    Quark XPress 3.32/4 document conversion

I can't open them - I get the error 'This document cannot be opened by this version of QuarkXPress'. I added type and creator info to one of the files, as well as creating an empty resource fork and then copying over an XTND resource (the only one) from a new Quark file I created. The .qxp file...

    Quark XPress 3.32/4 document conversion

I'm very happy to help. You'll have to send over the files somehow - making sure to preserve the files' resource forks by correctly packaging them up. For example, could you compress all the documents and their folder structure into a Stuffit 5.5 archive and then encode it in MacBinary/HQX...

    croissantking's conquests

I bumped a couple of PowerBook RAM cards to max capacity, the first being a partially populated ‘death chime’ card suitable for a 165c/180c. Well, I did my thing and found the bad chip, then put all the spare chips back on one bank at a time after testing them first. Here’s the finished...

Micron Xceed SE/306-48 and SE/30 issue

As part of my troubleshooting efforts, I've created JED files for 9 of the 11 GAL chips on this video card, using the code that's in the manual and compiling it with WinCUPL. I'm attaching them here in the hopes that someone else will find them useful for repair at some point. They are untested...
