The 190/5300 are notorious for having the power connector lose connection with the motherboard. Give that a check as well next time you open it up.

I would try the basic basic setup. Pull all RAM except 2 x 16 MB DIMMS, A twin turbo card if you still have it or the oldest PCI video card in PCI Slot 1 (close to the CPU), connect one drive, one floppy, and the 200 MP PROCESSOR, replace the PRAM, then hit the CUDA switch. Then test.

If it is an older 9600, it may not be compatible with the 604ev CPU from your 8600. What is the CPU speed marked on the front of the 9600 case? Or if that doesn't exist, the motherboard model?

My recommendation after owning all three would be the 1400c and the 2300c. The 3400c is notorious for failing as already mentioned, and 8.6 on a 1400c with 64MB RAM is perfect. As it is the 117mhz model you can easily find a 133mhz to speed it up a bit. The 2300c gives you the small form factor...

Of all the research I have done on this particular unit from Apple's history, I have never seen that video card before.  That one piece there is unique. A pinout of that card vs the port would allow creative people here to figure out how it is used and possible craft an adapter.

I think your best bet might be to find the OS released around the time of the ROM revision.  Perhaps even a 7.5.x beta that was in development may have the correct code that would have been removed for the production releases.

I had no luck with my new router and the old Orinoco cards the last time I tried. Mind you I didn't explore troubleshooting it. Have you tried switching between wep and wep 2? Also I remember having to turn on long preamble for a more stable connection.

Without any pictures, you can tell just by the size whether it's a 117 or a 133/166model. The 117 does not have any cache, and therefore is almost a square, while the 133/166 is rectangular.

Nice haul. I've always liked the 1400 that have a few that are upgraded to the max. The one thing you have there that has eluded me is the internal video expansion card. 64MB is the maximum that a 1400 can take. It is enough for 8.6 and certainly 7.6.1, but its a little shaky for OS9. Even...
