Looking for Apple Network Software Installers prior to 1.4.4

I had a quick look through my CD catalogue and put together a small archive of stuff I found. Hopefully there's something useful in here.

Problem mounting a 6 GB drive with System 7

Actually I just thought of something. You probably don't need to reformat the disk with HD SC Setup. Just click the "Update" button in it. That will replace the disk driver installed by Drive Setup with it's own one. There's a good chance that the volumes will mount after you do this.

Problem mounting a 6 GB drive with System 7

I think the issue might be with formatting it in 8.6 (presumably with Drive Setup?). Try formatting it with Apple HD SC Setup. I did this with a 18GB external SCSI drive and it mounted fine on my Classic II as well as my LC III.

    Homebrew PRAM Batteries

Another alternative I've seen online is to use three "button" batteries. Much smaller footprint than the AAA or AAAA batteries. Not sure if the holders are on ebay. I found these on Yahoo Auctions in Japan. Might be a bit more expensive but tidier.

Problem with apple 24 scsi cd drive

I tried one of those cleaning kits when I needed to clean the drive in my 7500. It was useless. Not sure if it was the brush on the CD or the liquid (whatever it was, it wasn't IPA) but it had no effect. In the end I opened the drive up and cleaned the lens directly with a cotton bud (q-tip) and...

    SE/30 (finally a working A/UX machine!)

All I can say is 2.0 is more responsive than 3.0.2. I had some degree of networking going in 3.0.2 with LocalTalk (and LocalTalk Bridge on the "bridge" 7500) but I couldn't get that going on 2.0 (probably because I just dumped the install disc to zip rather than doing a proper install. So I'm...

    Powerbook G3: Broken HD Icon

Are you sure the CD drive is good? To force booting from a device other than the internal disk, hold down cmd+opt+shift+del on startup until you see the question mark, then release and it will boot from the next bootable device it finds.

    Problem with Mac Classic II

Washing worked for me, but ultimately you'll need to replace those caps at some stage. It should get your Classic II up and running until then.

    FDDI network on NuBus macs

The 3DO Station I posted about here was typically connected to a Quadra over FDDI.

    Power button problem with G4

I have yet another GE here that I got in fairly stripped-down condition (three out of the four G4s I managed to find are all GE's!). So I swapped out it's "front panel board" (thank you service manual) and it's working fine. So I guess the original one has gone bad. I'll take a closer look at it...

    Power button problem with G4

I took the battery out and it behaves the same. Pressing the case power button won't startup or shutdown. The button just sits there fully-lit. Seems a strange thing to break, but maybe that's what's happened alright.

    SE/30 (finally a working A/UX machine!)

I haven't had a chance to do much from the unix side. The main issue is I don't have any ethernet in this SE/30. Also, space is tight. In time I'll hook up one of my 18GB SCSI externals and install to a larger partition. My IIfx would be a better test rig, but I still need to try and get that...

    Power button problem with G4

I just picked up another Gigabit Ethernet. Unlike my last rescue, this one was complete internally. It didn't chime at first, so I took out the RAM sticks and put in a pair from my other GE. It fired up fine after this (the two sticks installed were PC133R ECC, maybe not the correct kind)...

    SE/30 (finally a working A/UX machine!)

I only installed it earlier today so I haven't had much time to "work" with it. Interface-wise you still have the Finder, but the System is 6.0.5 rather than 7.0.1 so it's easier on the hardware. Otherwise it looks much the same as 3.x.

    SE/30 (finally a working A/UX machine!)

I still haven't looked at the floppy drive but I installed A/UX 2.0 earlier by dd-ing the disc image onto a zip disk (similar to the method outlined here for 1.1.1) It runs a lot faster on this hardware than 3.0.x, even from a zip disk. It would be nice to get this updated to 2.0.1 but I can't...

    A/UX Essentials

You can find some more here. Is this pdf now uploaded to the wiki? I have to confess I've never used it and I can't see where such document uploads would be.

    Making a 1.44MB boot disk?

You need to check the filesizes of the disk images. DiskCopy 4.2 images have a header at the start of the file. If you don't strip this, then the images won't write correctly with Rawrite. If the images are 1,474,644 bytes then you need to strip the header. You can do this in OS X from the...

    Bernoulli Extensions

There's a "Iomega Bernoulli" driver listed on Mac Driver Museum, but the link is dead. I did grab a copy at some stage though. Here it is. I guess it has support for the drives built-in.
