thank you, I got it working using a spinning HDD. it did not like my SSDs or CF/HD adapters. would lock on boot. with an old spinning mechanical HDD it boots and the replacement DVD seems to work great! thanks for the reply.

OS is 9.2 by the way. wonder if it's a driver issue?

I have a G4 Cube with a faulty DVD drive. I've see the walkthrough thread: walkthrough So I purchased a (actually 2) UJ-85J-C from Ebay. I don't have the proper adapter, just the original one from the bad drive (board sticks out the the side). When I power up, I just get the flashing folder...
