    The Manhole

I have posters too. I would hang them up if I had any space left. I like old maps and I have reproductions of early 19th century maps on my walls.

    Patched 6.0.8L for more Macs

@johnklos mentioned many moons ago he had gotten System 6 to run on his Quadra 700, so it does seem to be possible.

    The Manhole

I picked this up on a local auction site recently. It is a CD from 1989. Isn't it beautifully laid out?

    Thunderbolt on Mac OS 9

Maybe. My logic was that if the Thunderbolt » FireWire cables were bi-directional, then the FireWire extensions would be the drivers. Would NVMe bring more than simple SATA SSDs? Wouldn't the PCI or SCSI bus simply be flooded? Thanks for this post. There is food for thought there.

    Thunderbolt on Mac OS 9

This is in the category: I don't think it is possible but maybe someone has found a way to make it work and can prove me wrong. I have no hands-on experience at all of Thunderbolt but I have seen Thunderbolt to FW800 adapters on sale. My limited knowledge of Thunderbolt is that it is...

    MacOS 8.6 vs 9.1 vs 9.2.2

You could try mixing & matching: Mac OS 8.6 but with CarbonLib 1.6.1, USB & FW drivers from 9.2.2 maybe ATi/nvidia drivers from 9.2.2 as well. Mac OS 9.2.2 is a requirement for some applications & drivers too, so you will learn which ones they are.

Font & Size of the letters G3 on the Blue & White case

I see your kilomacs and raise you to 'Percentage of Dwelling Left Unfilled by Macs'. Since we all live in houses/apartments/palaces (see here) of varying sizes, only so much Mac-related stuff (can one have enough SCSI cables?) as well as actual Macs into it. Spouses, partners and/or parents...

LC 475 - switch from 68LC040 to the 68040 with FPU, what do I have to consider ?

Do look into upping the bus-speed to 33MHz as well as getting yourself a 33MHz 68040 processor.

    Bootable disk creation

I don't know about the 16MHz 68030 but Mac OS 8.1 runs agreeably well on my IIfx with 32MB RAM.

    Bootable disk creation

For Macs with 68030 processors and ROM-SIMM slots, a ROMinator II ROM SIMM is also a very handy option. I have one in my IIfx. p.s. I second @olePigeon's suggestion of removable media drives with SCSI ports. They are very useful indeed and can act as sneakernet when your network is down too. If...

    Roadside Rescue

That may be so, but the breed of apple in question is called McIntosh. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McIntosh_(apple) As an aside, the word Macintosh comes from Irish (aka Gaelic) mac an taoisigh which means 'son of the leader'. The prime minister of the Republic of Ireland is called the...

Ideas for Mac mod / accessory DIY kits?

I'd like to see a variety of front-facing ports that make use of the floppy slot or the G3/QS slot along the lines of the GeeThree Sweet Multiport [1]. For 68K machines, something simple like a bezel & holder to allow a couple of WhateverToSD boards to be mounted. For beige PCI-Macs 1, front...

Boot Speed vs High Ram Count - Quadra 950

Get your yourself a Mac Mini G4, install the version Mac OS 9.2.2 modified to run on it and connect to the MG that way. It works well until it crashes, which is not unknown. Then connect the Mac Mini G4 to your Q950 and your 68K mac has access to the shared volumes on your G4.

    Help Identifying Macintosh Notebook

Does the company mentioned inside the case (FU YU MFG Singapore) say anything to anybody? The first result in Google is the Fu Yu Manufacturing Limited and they have been doing high precision plastic parts for a few decades now, well, at least acc. to their website.

    Things that tempt me

So they exist then! Aside from the ultra-narrow 68-pin slots, I thought that I had seen all of the standard SCSI plugs found in use with Macs. I must go look for a few. It will save me a 50-pin SCSI device in the middle.
