Weird dotted lines on Macintosh 128k

The third-party RAM upgrades for early Macs were often precariously placed in sockets, with wiring going to random points so have a look inside and see - check wiring all in place and see if the RAM upgrade can be potentially be reseated and contacts cleaned. I'm currently restoring a couple of...

    PM G5 (late 2005) boot/wake problem

Try the basics, you've got the small CUDA/SMU reset switch on the motherboard, also replace CR2032 battery, reset PRAM and NVRAM (via Open Firmware). There is also the Apple Hardware Test CD to diagnose and test things in further detail. I'd also remove the KVM during this time as they are...

    Here? In a small town?

Any brand name “high performance” SD card will do you will never fill 1GB let alone 32GB but find it good having a larger card to fit and try various OS installs etc.

Zuluscsi Laptop RP2040- What laptops does it suit?

as in Mac Portable? No you’ll need a harness made for any 3.5” SCSI 50 pin HD, then another adapter for 3.5 - 2.5” for the ZuluSCSI. Not worth the expense of all the adapters.

Weird dotted lines on Macintosh 128k

It's most likely failed RAM, is the analogue board recapped/check voltages

    Classic II squealing audio issue

There is most likely a very marginal trace around the sound IC, check here first and reflow the IC itself. Did you ultrasonic clean the analog board too? Another source of noise with the gap goo often trickling down under components.

SE/30 powers on, no chime, HDD spins, then horizontal lines; advice before buying + recap recommendations?

Good the seller checked - many would not bother! It's worth $50 - 100, as you might need to merge parts from your upcoming mostly working SE/30 - notably the PSU, floppy drive, casing

TV Tuner Solution for LC 5xx ?

Might be easier to get your MacTV board fixed/send away over finding the rarely seen PDS card for the 520/550

    Here? In a small town?

Congrats on the find! If you have never seen one in your town and will never see it again, get it - a few hundred bucks for is fair. The Mac SE is generally very reliable (ideally recap PSU and analogue board caps in turn), and runs early software notably faster than a Plus.

    Help with error code

It points to a RAM failure, like one or more of the 16 X 4164 RAM ICs have failed. Very common - ideally you want to replace the lot with sockets and replacement chips.

    Black Lines on Performa 400

VRAM! Any chance you've another module from another Mac to test?

SE with Performer 68030 accelerator slow booting

Check PSU voltages, and maybe fresh OS install as a test. I've found the Performer extension, once loaded, does speed up boot times but only slightly (mine in a Mac Plus)

    Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh rehabbing

That's interesting, does the TAM keyboard use the exact same internals/membrane/housing as the 3400? Another reason to keep a junker 3400 in the parts bin if so :)

    Weird RAM issue - PowerMac11,2

Sounds like OWC got a mismatched RAM stick from their supplier, the rogue module will down clock to PC2-3200 speeds and not be an outlier. There are utilities on the PC side that let you edit the SPD of the RAM modules if keen, but if working well I wouldn't bother.

    interesting haul so far

The couple really liked their Duos - really decent haul. You can fire up a vinegar syndrome LCD to see specs of the Mac etc - I'm coming across more now and at times the display can be remarkably visible. Others though it's a wash out.

    Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh rehabbing

The elastic fabric is lightly glued in for removal; but it can be cleaned with laundry spray if grimy and not frayed

    Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh rehabbing

@joshc yep very true, I like to think of the TAM as containing tried and true, reliable parts sticky taped together and then sold to a someone sipping a latte :) Nowadays though it is my most used Mac though and bridges everything pretty much. No evidence I need to recap mine and not overly...

    Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh rehabbing

@Njb796 I'm sure all is not lost the TAM is a fairly reliable Mac - yes, there I said it! With some care I'd like to think you will get it up and running again. I have put my TAM in a funk where it chimes and doesn't get any further this was usually related to a marginal PRAM battery and...

000000E 0000FFFF, Broken hinge, scratched screen Portable

Hi, P1: You know, you need to go back in and have another look at your work :). Deep clean around the replacement caps, and very close look around the Hybrid IC that is often taken out from corrosion. It has 1MB onboard so you can remove the RAM card for now. P2: Portables are pretty rock...

    Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh rehabbing

Hi njb796, Congrats on finding a TAM, I also had a well used one that came up well with some restoration time. You will find posts on here about recapping the unit (and subwoofer/PSU), personally I'm yet to tackle mine as there is no evidence of leaking but imagine I'll have to do it in a few...
