In my view, Haiku with AMS or MACE running in it would tick all the boxes. Assuming Haiku could be made to run on older PPC Macs as well as Intel and ARM systems.
Does opening the mod file with a hex editor, copying the content, and then pasting over the hex in the existing resource not work? I thought that’s what I did in the past.
Seems to me the solution is to run leads to an external pack that mounts behind the unit. That way, if it leaks/explodes, it doesn't do so all over the internals. Bonus would be to have a little sealed plastic case it all goes in, so that when it destructs, the carnage is still contained...
I still remember looking at the Turbo buttons incredulously and thinking "Why would I want to NOT have it in Turbo mode?"
The public messaging was sometimes way too simplified back in the day.
From my faulty recollection, custom hardware configurations could be provided if the orders and renewals were large enough. So you could get an entire fleet of Macs with the same non-standard HDD and memory configuration, or with an institution proprietary card installed in all of them direct...
The main difference between Server and Client is the configuration pane that locally or remotely manages all the settings; most of the actual software is fully present on Client, it just doesn't have a front end UI to manage it. WebObjects is the obvious exception to that -- it comes as a...
Is there generally enough physical space to add a border to the top or end of the cards? I'm just thinking that some routed throughole contacts and a JTAG programmer could allow for an "almost" original board, but with the ability to use an external programmer for the chips. Obviously...

It's been years since I've used it, but I seem to recall the default fonts on MacWeb being gigantic, and I needed to dial them down in the settings? Do you have other pages where MacWeb is displaying fonts at an appropriate size?
The Internet doesn't really have a concept of "being connected to the Internet" -- you can check route and quality of connection to host, and with some specialized code and hardware can query BGP tables and do large volumes of traceroutes to map existing connectivity, but that's all going to...
I have to admit though, I'm enjoying reading everyone's responses. One problem with AI is that it's able to generate new content faster than humans can consume it. So people taking the time to comment on all the different angles of this "project" results in a good time capsule of thoughts on...
If you're using OT, the async I/O tends to work; there's just a split-second lock-up IIRC. With MacTCP, I seem to recall some block on buff stuff going on, where you need to fill/purge the input buffer to pass control back to the system. Not so much sloppy programming as all that could be done...
I'd love it if others would update https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wg45xflCn8MAPvE0H4un7OmbavRNW5qlSHbeZg39Q9A/ - and adding a column for "background music" would be perfectly fine :)
