Anyone have a PB Serial Adapter? Cloneable?

This thing is interesting, it ha three rd422 transceivers? Does it allow localtalk on the modem port? But I'm not sure how it works, because unless it patches AOn() the system software will power off the modem when switching localtalk ports. And I'm not too convinced about the better performance...

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

@cheesestraws Did you try AirTalk with the ESP32-WROOM-32E-N4 (E revision)? It seems the D revision is obsoleted (le sigh). The only difference I can find is that GPIO6-11 are not routed out, and that it uses the ESP32 v3. They say it is a drop in replacement (skipping over the infinitesimally...

Announcing and interest check: Integrated AirTalk for PowerBook 100 series

Sure! this is the current version: https://bitbucket.org/twelvetone12/portable_airtalk/src/master/ I did quite some rework these last days, and I simplified the design, I will try to wrap that up and commit it this week.

Announcing and interest check: Integrated AirTalk for PowerBook 100 series

Thanks Ales :) and I can announce that IT WORKS!! Here it is! I connected the connector pins manually since I already had cables coming out the machine. There was a problem with the 3.3 buffer, but in the end it is good since I have a chance to debug it before the next run of boards. There...

Announcing and interest check: Integrated AirTalk for PowerBook 100 series

Thanks @LaPorta :) yesterday I was quite upset with myself for not noticing the different pinout in the connector, but I just realized that I route all the signals out of the machine and I can still use the prototype externally! Which is also handy for debugging! I'm very excited again now :D

Announcing and interest check: Integrated AirTalk for PowerBook 100 series

Turns out the footprint for the connector I used numbered the pins differently, (top to bottom) 1-10 and (top to bottom) 11-20. I've never seen a connector do that, and needless to say the real connector is odd numbers on one side and even numbers on the others. When the pins are numbered...

    LocalTalk... but faster?

    wow 😲

    LocalTalk... but faster?

Wait, this thing uses ethernet as the comm bus? Does it use custom cabling? What RJs are those? I'm intrigued!

    LocalTalk... but faster?

The ESP32 can do ethernet, just add PHY and magnetics! It could open the door for some cool things.

It should work, the connector carries basically the same signals, but I think the board would need to be adapted. I will finish assembling tomorrow I'm very curious to see if it really works or how much magic smoke I release :)

    LocalTalk... but faster?

This would be super cool. Until this morning I didn't even know there were faster localtalk implementations!

Next step: programming the esp! Maybe I was too lazy to not include a "setup" switch...

I use both of them, but I find them extremely clunky :D
