That CRT is totally done. I'd definitely say finding another Mac is probably the easiest, but you might have luck finding an old TV or something that uses a similar tube. I've done the same thing so I know your pain :/

Another idea (I had the same problem with my SE) is that a small shielding inside the rear housing can crumple and stop it from closing. Worth a look

I ended up using a 1.5V AA battery which somehow is still keeping the settings I needed (mouse speed and a few others). Clock has fallen about 2-3 weeks behind though.
