Again, let me apologize saying there was no video board on the Lisa. While I’ve built dozens of computers over the years - most were PC’s and in a PC, a video card typically plugged into a bus slot, had a GPU and lots of memory. The video board on a Lisa and compact Mac’s is very different. I’ve...
Sorry, my mistake. During most of Adrian’s series, the board that drove the CRT was disabled so it would not drive a CRT, and was kept connected to put a load on the computer’s power supply. Nearly all troubleshooting was done with a video converter that connected to the video connector driving...
I watched Adrian’s Digital Basement series - 9 episodes on YouTube. There is no video board in the Lisa 2/5
If you are referring to to the board with the video connector, Apple call this a motherboard - it’s a backplane. The motherboard was heavily damaged on Adrian’s machine, and he assembled...
FYI, in February, 2026 Apple unexpectedly released a security update for OSX Catalina to address expired security certificates. This means most Macs that were released in 2012 can still be used in 2026. Here’s a link to the article from MacUser...
Try holding the Option key down when you select the Monitors control panel, to see additional video resolutions.
If that doesn’t work, I wonder if you have the correct Monitors control panel that matches your operating system version.
Ok, didn’t know how many computers had an AUI port. These must be some unique computers, as Macs typically had an AAUI port and 10baseT cards that work in PC’s are inexpensive ($10-$15) on eBay.
I think your idea for an AUI to AAUI adapter is a good one.
I had another idea. I remember in the 90’s you could find inexpensive 10baseT hub with a single 10base2 connector. I used one in my office to bridge a 10base2 network to a 10baseT network - plug and play. I just searched eBay and found...
Why is there a dark spot about 3 inches big near the fan, inside the case? Or is that a shadow? I would clean out the inside with a can of air and confirm the fans are working. The loose RAM stick will definitely cause the computer to freeze.
I had a 3Dfx Voodoo 2 card and an 10 MB ethernet card installed in my C500. I was amazed the first time I saw Unreal running on that machine - a Mac gaming computer!
In my experience, USB1 cards made by NEC work well on PCI Macs based on the 6400/6500. The source of this info was on www.xlr8yourmac.com
I just learned this site closed down November, 2025 https://appleinsider.com/articles/25/11/05/xlr8yourmac-goes-offline-ending-an-era-of-diy-tinkering
