Macintosh Plus Hole Case Cut for Heat?

The Kensington System Saver was a popular cooling option for the Mac that didn’t require cutting holes in the case.

You really want a SCSI CDROM to install OS and install software. There was one offered for free on this forum back in April. Maybe someone here has one.

Problems connecting 10B-T to modern networks? Try this

FYI TP Link also sells the metal case TL-SG108 8 port Gigabit switch for $4 more than the plastic case version. I don’t recall any hardware problems networking an old Mac with it’s 10 Mb port, though I had to use an older G4 PM that still supported Appleshare

Tokamac build and programming XC1736 chips

In your picture, the pin on the top left corner does NOT look like it’s in the socket. I wonder if the same pin is not in your programmer.

Which Macs support power on after AC restore or other remote power-on (and how to enable)?

Expecting a Mac made in the 90’s to just power up and work normally sounds foolish. At best, the Mac won’t power up and at worst, the Mac will die in a cloud of smoke. Just my opinion.

I haven’t tried iCab 2.9.9 in the past year on my 68K Mac, but I recall it working fine IF you browse thru www.frogfind.com Frogfind gives you a limited web browsing, with pictures reduced to one or more, low rez 256 color images. On the other hand, if you have a G3, G4 or G5 PowerPC Mac...

Quake RAVE or GLQuake will freeze a PowerMac 6500 if a dedicated graphics card is used

I don’t believe Apple ever shipped a machine with a GeForce 2 PCI card. The G4 iMac had a GeForce 2 MX built-in, and they were on the AGP bus?

Quake RAVE or GLQuake will freeze a PowerMac 6500 if a dedicated graphics card is used

When Quake was released, the best way to run it on your Mac was to install a 3Dfx Voodoo 2 card. I think they cost about $150 when new, and you didn’t need to install a Mac specific card in your machine, as the Mac drivers were freely available. I just checked eBay - slim pickings and these...

    Ethernet for my Performa 6360

You will have difficulty browsing the internet on a computer running older than OSX 10.4 because older web browsers can’t handle the security settings ie. Https. If you are running OSX 10.4 or 10.5, then you can browse using TenFourFox or InterwebPPC https://github.com/wicknix/InterWebPPC

Rescued what I thought was a Mac II

If you’re paying a pro to replace the caps, battery holders then it’s not a bad idea to have the power supply checked and the system tested to insure it boots to the desktop.

Rescued what I thought was a Mac II

I’ve used the capacitor replacement kit for my Atari 800XL from Console5 - the parts were high quality and correct. I would leave the capacitor replacement to a pro - it’s difficult to remove some of those parts because they are close to adjacent components and it wouldn’t be hard to permanently...
