A 520 logic board can be bumped from 25mhz to 33mhz (which I believe is what the 550 board runs at) by moving a resister on the bottom of the board.
Also has the benefit of not being limited to 10MB of RAM like the stock CC board.
My initial guess is that powering both from the SCSI bus may be too much, potentially causing the voltage to drop and a symptom of that being the data corruption.
Again, this is just a guess based off my own experiences of running a Raspberry Pi at just under its stated voltage range and...
Just put in an order :) looking forward to giving them a try!
Also put in an order for the LCD bracket. Going to see if I can use it in a leftover SE/30 case that I have (original computer went into a MacEffects case years ago), and pair it with a Raspberry Pi. @Geekybit is there a good LCD...
Of course 7.1 will run faster than 7.5. Same as 6.0.8 is faster than 7.1. Less features and overhead, etc.
That said, if you’re putting the features to use then it isn’t bloat, it’s added functionality at the expense of performance.
In my case, I have 2 SE/30s, one of them at the stock 16mhz...
This was an adventure. Tried installing WSL on an existing Windows 10 Bootcamp install on my old MacBook (16gb RAM). For whatever reason something wasn’t working right with it, strange errors and never got it to get to point of encoding video frames.
Ended up installing Linux Mint on a spare...
@avadondragon did you ever get this working on a raspberry Pi 4gb model? I also am running into an issue with it. Reads around 4100 frames then crashes in Terminal or the entire Pi freezes.
I have booted my tangerine iBook G3 from USB, I’d always figured these other machines could do it as well. It was incredibly slow to boot and install Mac OS 9 of course, being a USB 1.1 port.
Having owned both and used Tiger on both a long time ago, I’d say the Pismo is the oldest/slowest powerbook that can still provide an excellent 10.4 experience. Tiger worked on the Lombard functionally, but not nearly as responsive or smooth in my experience. Guessing the system bus speed and...
Not sure if you have tried, but have you tried removing the RAM from the PC Card and just share main system memory with it? On my 6100 I have found the PC Card to be very picky about RAM, some sticks would work intermittently. Took a long time to find one that worked reliably.
Also as a point...
I’m interested in trying this! I was looking at the cards I have (one installed, 1 backup), both are the AV variant. However, after looking close they are completely different layouts. One appears to have the space for the USB controller chip, the other doesn’t. I’ll get some photos and part...
I have 8.1 on my SE/30. I used a 32bit clean rom, pretty sure one is required and that Mode32 won’t get the job done (unless there’s an alternative method).
Only need system 7 disks for initial install. Once set up though, it has worked great ever since. Nice to have HFS+ support.
