Dirty Macs - post your pics of the filthy ones

While it cleaned up nicely, this one was really dirty when I got it. To top it off, it also happens to be 32-bit dirty...

    Shattered LCs? Morbid curiosity.

From my experience, the tabs on the back are among the worst offenders. I've also seen buttons for screen and volume controls pop out of their sockets (admittedly my experience was on a 5200, but the same applies to the 500 series since they used the same buttons). Whatever you do, NEVER ship...

Can any one identify what this might be?

I saw that one too. I'm also guessing parallel printer (I know there were external adapters for people who wanted to connect parallel printers so I'm sure they also made PDS and NuBus cards). Who wants to buy it for the team?

Personal LaserWriter NT/NTR: What to Watch For?

I'm considering buying a Personal LaserWriter NT or NTR for my computer lab. What, if any, issues should I be aware of that would plague these printers in 2023? I know I can still source toner for these (HP 75A) so I'm not too concerned there, but what about things like boards, capacitors...

    Cap explosion on SE/30–help!

I once had a student joke about getting the quadratic formula tattooed on the wrist to avoid memorizing it. (No, it didn't happen, thankfully...my students have all memorized it through practice!)

Why would you use Mac OS 6.0.5?

Each System 6 version, complete with the mathematically questionable double decimal point, is similar to what we get today when we update our systems. Every upgrade adds support for something new, fixes a bug, or a combination of the two. This is going completely off memory, but... 6.0.0...

    Suitable fan for SE?

The Elina is actually the quieter of the two fans on later SE analogs; the other model used was a DC Pico Ace.

Color Classic no longer recognizes floppy driive

The CC, 500 series, and an unreleased intermediate model were actually all designed at the same time (AppleDesign mentions this and is my source here). The intermediate model is a little hard to describe but looks like a short, somewhat compressed 500 series. There's a pic in AppleDesign. I get...

    Mac LC prototype ROM

Something I'm curious about with the old board: do they run System Software earlier than 6.0.6? I know the finalization date of 6.0.6 was 09/04/1990. (Source: I have a full copy of 6.0.6 from a Classic that shipped with both 6.0.6 and 6.0.7). The Classic ROM disk used 6.0.3 and has an unusual...

Bars vs. Checkerboards on Classic II

If I'm observing a Mac Classic II without opening it up, is there any real difference between a computer showing four bars vs. a checkerboard? Obviously, both will lead to capacitor replacement, but is there anything else to be concerned about if bars are there instead of a checkerboard?

    Italian Linen Cover

Any chance they'd make one for an LC with a 12" monitor on top?

ROLL CALL: Mac SE SuperDrive Machines

It seems there are many more of these made in early 1991 than previously realized. Apple lists the discontinuation date of the SE as October 15, 1990, but there seem to be a large number of them made in the first few weeks of 1991. What I'm trying to figure out is when the last one rolled off...

ImageWriter II LocalTalk Cards Dying - Caps?

See the title. I'm finding these are failing rapidly, and I can smell the failing caps when the IW is turned on, but I can't seem to find the origin of these on the network cards. I'm pretty sure it's just the card since the printer works fine with the card disabled, yet it goes on and off the...

    Oops...I did it again...

I told myself I wouldn't get any more. I said I'd swear off buying them for the rest of the year after picking up a IIc from a guy from my old church. I said there was no way I'd want to add another piece to the lab even if we got more students. Well, all that talk failed. I just bought another...

So... Just Acquired a Sealed Apple Service Quadra 900 Board in Box

I don't think these had batteries on board. Curious, where did you find it?

    Boxed Color Classic!!!

Not new, but a 1-owner Mac. I found it by searching Craigslists near and far, convinced the seller to have it professionally packed (it came from Maine to Pennsylvania), and had it packed as a box-in-box.

    Boxed Color Classic!!!

I usually don’t post conquest pictures, but this one was too good not to share. Got it for just $200 plus shipping. It will need caps but otherwise looks good!!

    AppleTalk Network Woes

This is something I haven't seen before and definitely will try--I have a spare PSU sitting around and will pop it in there sometime! Now I have a re-capped Classic doing the same thing...could it be something similar, maybe with the analog?
