Power supplies for Indys and O2s are a lot better than the older Indigos and Octanes - at least for now. Jealous of the SGI haul!

Yes - you need to do some kind of serial to parallel conversion, and then you need to deal with drivers, disk formatting differences, etc. While I think it might be a fun exercise, and you would learn a lot about both Mac HD20 (serial floppy) protocol and how the heck Macworks made ProFiles...

I think that might be a bridge too far, not just in the physical connectivity, but at the protocol level as well. I'd love to be proved wrong, though!

Yes - I have one of these, and just bought another. In Widget news, I brought back a dormant Widget that would not come ready by swapping the interface and read/write board from another drive that would (but had other problems) and got the below. Good thing I kept the root PW blank back in the day!

I think Pascal could use all the available memory. I remember an Apple II friend who loved the /// because he could have more memory for Pascal. I don't know if that was native, or Pascal in the Apple II emulation. It _was_ a long time ago :)

Others might hurt me over this, but if it were my drive, I'd try this. With the drive off, move back the brake plate with your hand, and then VERY gently see if the arm can then move through some or all of it's arc. You may want to wait until @stepleton or someone wiser pipes up with a better...

Oh yeah - I've heard that noise many times. It _should_ get better after a while, but no guarantees. As @stepleton says, after if comes up to speed, you should hear the big click/clunk as the brake releases, and then the squeaky mouse noise as the heads seek. Larry Pina's book "Macintosh...

For what it's worth, my Widget sometimes doesn't have enough torque to start spinning on its own after sitting for while. With the front off (be sure to defeat the switch in the lower front of the case) I power up the machine and give the platter a gentle push with the eraser end of a pencil...

I don't think there's a secret handshake for owners, but I bet most all of them have flipped their CC the bird at one time or another! They can be frustrating...

That's a little transformer that goes between the video board and the neckboard(?) I just unplugged mine and left it there when I swapped out the ROMs to turn my machine back into a Lisa.
