    Classilla 9.3.2

8.6 is certainly lighter than 9.2.2. But why do you have virtual memory on? I bet it would be even faster with that off, and 512MB of physical RAM in 8.6 is unbelievably roomy.

Classic Mac OS will survive Y2038 (and maybe longer)

One of the bugs I fixed in Classilla 9.3.2 was an issue with cookies far in the future overflowing the 32-bit time value in the classic Mac OS. Interestingly, this value is unsigned, unlike the regular time_t in OS X, which is signed. It is well-known that 32-bit time_t values have a Y2038...

    Lady gift

I don't like the Z71 as much as the Z72 (which was the last Palm I owned and my personal favourite Palm device other than the AlphaSmart dana). The Z71 had that scary slide mechanism; I watched one of my friends open hers and the top separated and flew off, wrecking the unit. Also, the Z71 could...

    Lady gift

Ah, SuperDisks. I kept waiting for those to gain traction, but they really came in at the end of the floppy sneakernet era and Zip already had that market.

    Graphics Card for Digital Audio

Of those, I'd probably pick the GeForce even though I am predisposed to ATI cards generally. However, neither card will dramatically improve your Leopard experience, though they will help make things a little smoother.

    Server room Macintosh portable

Just as a followup here, my Mac Portable (no backlight) runs just fine without a battery. I use a regulated 9V 3A power supply connected to the rear power adaptor. This is enough to get the original Conner drive up and start the machine. Lower than that and it will flip out. I dug it out of the...

    Classilla 9.3.2

Good to hear. I don't have any 8.6 systems anymore, unfortunately, and my only OS 8.1 machine is the Q800, so I appreciate the testing.

    2005 14" iBook G4 for $60

A 7200rpm drive will cook in there (and cook the machine with it). At most I'd put a 5400rpm in there, and that's not going to be a lot faster than the 4200rpm one it has. So unless you're going to spring for an SSD, I'd say it's going to be a lot of work for a relatively underwhelming...

Upgrading from G3 to G4 in my 7600/132.

I have the enabler here: gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/archive/by-request/classic-mac

    2005 14" iBook G4 for $60

It might, but getting at the hard disk in the iBook is a royal PITA. Also, if the drive runs particularly hot, it can warp the case (don't ask me how I know this).

    DIY Localtalk - Ethernet converter

I have Inside AppleTalk (the book). No, you can't have it, but I can try to look stuff up in it for you. I thought I had the Inside Macintosh pdf of it, but it looks like I don't.

    2005 14" iBook G4 for $60

I'm more partial to the 12" iBooks (I use a 12" iBook G4/1.33 to this day), but the 14" are also solid machines. My mother still uses one for Bible study.

    Emulators

    Emulators

I'm sure my Q800 will run that splendidly. There are a few Commodore emulators around that will work fine on 68Ks. They're not as good as VICE or (my personal preference) Power64 but they'll run a lot. Somewhat related: There's a Game Boy emulator for JavaScript. TenFourFox on the G5 can...

I really liked bbraun's Toy Room, so I did one of my own. These count as conquests, right? http://www.floodgap.com/etc/machines.html

    Philips hue

Sure, you can do scheduling in cron, or from the mobile app. The price is because not only are they LED bulbs (which are already $25+ a pop), but they have multiple LED colour elements and 2.4GHz radios in them. There's a lot of stuff crammed in those bulbs.

    Philips hue

I picked up the Philips hue wireless lights to play with, and, well, they're not cheap, but they sure are cool. Especially since they can be directly manipulated through HTTP, so I threw together a command line tool for that. http://www.floodgap.com/software/huepl/ It's really fun to control...
