I use a DB-15 to VGA cable with my 6400 connected to a LCD display (LG Flatron 17"), no switches needed, no big assembly protruding from the back of the case. I bought the first cheap cable that I found, worked well right away.

I have such a cable on my Power Mac 6400, connected to a LCD. It works fine. As those machines are somewhat similar, you should be OK.

Is the SCSI port on the Sony Discman proprietary? Looking at photos online of the back it does not seems to be a standard port.

I concur, if you have the ability to flash it, the XFX 6200 ‘WANG’ is one of the best video card for the Cube. I have one in mine, with a custom made heatsink:
