Thanks I thought so too, I can't believe nobody else bid on it!
Oh nice thanks that's good to know, I'll have to see if I can source the VRAM chips from somewhere.
That's very interesting!! Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction, I've bought the parts and will attempt to...
I managed to get a PC Compatibility card (PCI) for $20 (unsure of the exact details of it, it's either 100Mhz or 160Mhz). I installed it in my MDD because I no longer have any early PPC machines with PCI and it mostly works. The PC card boots and runs, can switch to and from the system and the...
@theducks Oh really that's interesting! No I haven't and I've tried it in multiple 1400 machines with different sets of drivers. Either I've lost some special drivers I originally had that were specifically for this card or something has gone wrong with the card.
If you get yours working again...
I ended up opening the 600MHz model and it appears to use the same transformer: 6174Z-1017H CA08J N. I also found that the front bezel has a bunch of hidden cracks 😞
Would I be correct in assuming the second serial number is a batch number not relevant to the machine?
The second serial number on...
I have two iMacs that have arcing issues and would like to order replacement flyback transformers and get them installed. The iMac G3 500Mhz (arcing issues) along with my Flower Power 500 (no arcing issues) both use the LG 6174Z1017H. I recently acquired a Graphite iMac 600 (Summer 2001) which...
Thank you all for the tips!! That's much better news than I was expecting. Would it be worth using some sort of acidic copper cleaning solution or is that asking for trouble? Otherwise I'll try cleaning with solder wick/gentle scraping.
Thanks again!
I'm recapping all of my machines at the moment and have noticed the following on a PM6100, Centris and a Macintosh Portable. Part of the pads appear to be eaten away, will I need to expose the traces and repair the connection for these or should they be ok?
System 7.6 and 8.6.
When I was just under 5yrs old my dad bought his own Power Mac 6100 and started the beginnings of his graphic design business from it. That machine was the beginning of a lot for me. I spent countless hours playing with AfterDark and some of the 'secret' game screensavers...
Thanks @Phipli!
I think I could replace it, I'm reasonably confident with soldering and have a heat gun too, but a clip kit may be a better option. Where would I find a suitable clip kit for this?
Thanks for the advice on multi-booting. I noticed this when trying to get the HPV card going, I do...
Thanks @cheesestraws I'll look into getting one of these!
And thank you @max1zzz @Phipli @MrFahrenheit I think I'll try a newer SCSI disk first.
I'm upgrading my PM 6100 and would happily consider a better/newer SCSI HDD if they are faster. I'm mostly wanting to use it for casual gaming, I...
A better quality image of what looks like a 30MHz SMT TTL Crystal Oscillator. If this is the correct oscillator, would the second image be a suitable replacement?
I have a Power Mac 6100/60 with a G3 upgrade upgrade card and have been trying to figure out how to increase the Bus speed after an interesting comment from @Trash80toHP_Mini. In the past I believe this was achieved by either replacing an oscillator with a higher frequency replacement, or by...
From what I have found it seems that SCSI2SD and BlueSCSI have ~2MB/s read and write vs ~5MB/s (correct me if I am wrong) on an old SCSI HD.
What would be the fastest performing drive type on a SCSI Power Mac, is there anything I am missing?
Thanks @Phipli, that's good to know!
@Trash80toHP_Mini if you do end up overclocking I'd love to know how you accomplish this! Good luck if you try it!
Update:
The 6100 is blazing fast now, OS 7.6 is incredibly quick even with a 1GB Quantum Fireball, 8.5 is very good too but I'm going to...
You should get in touch with @MrFahrenheit who I bought mine from. They are a little expensive but they're worth it. I noticed a huge difference in the 6100, EV Override was super smooth and I'll try out EV Nova tomorrow (although not expecting as much from that).
Sorry I got the name wrong, and yeah it's strange that the Sonnet extensions picks it up as an AV card.
The 7100 has a 33Mhz bus vs 30Mhz in the 6100/60 which I am using. When running metronome with the Wish gestalt ID changed it still reports the bus running at 30Mhz on the G3. Does that sound...
Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I ended up getting it working!
It is the black heatsink version, and it's actually 225Mhz, I thought it was 250Mhz.
I tried updating to the latest Sonnet driver but that didn't do anything. Next I installed Wish and set my machine ID to a PM7100, then I...
Does anyone know of a hack that will allow an AV/Display card to work with the Crescendo G3 card? From what I've been able to find the only reason support was disabled was because of the limited space in the 6100 and heat issues. It works fine but the CPU extension disables itself once it loads...
