I ran into a similar issue after recapping the LCD of my PowerBook 165. The top half of the screen kept going black. I assume that too much cap goo got on the ribbons and did some damage to the drivers. The solution was to get a busted 160 and recap its screen.

I'd recommend a PiSCSI to get your SE/30 online. It can also replace your hard drive and can do some other neat tricks.

You want a cable that is wired 1:1. These can be found on amazon. A DB25 gender changer also works.

Did you just recap the logic board? On these machines usually the analog board also needs work.

As far as I know the earlier SEs came with red LEDs, while SE FDHDs and SE/30s usually came with amber LEDs.

Did you set the jumper or clip the resistor after upgrading the RAM? Does the issue persist when going back to the original RAM?

Disassemble, soak in soapy water, scrub, dry, reassemble. Both of my AEK IIs were completely seized up and the mechanism works like new again after that treatment.

Easily fixed by a good clean.

First, you are very lucky that the PRAM battery has not exploded. Remove or replace it immediately. Then, just as every other SE/30 logic board this one will need some work. These capacitors look original and they already have leaked all over the logic board. Notice how the pins of UA8 to UG8...
