    Emulation: Infinite Mac

I think an emulation sub-topic would be nice. There's a lot of Mac expertise here, including emulating Macs.

    Mac-to-VGA monitor adapter struggles

Self-powering is obviously the best, but I wouldn't object to a USB port for power. I have many video devices that require additional 5V input (switches, adapters, converters, upscalers, etc.). There's a bunch of peripherals for my other old hardware that require an additional 5V input as well.

    Patched 6.0.8L for more Macs

Bummer. I was hoping it would run on a 165c, just hadn't gotten around to testing yet.

    That's an awesome idea.

    68K PowerBook conversion

So if a knowledgeable and generous soul figured out the LCD signal and adapter requirements, we could potentially have: an adapter for the old LCD signals to modern LCDs as replacement panels an adapter for the old LCD signals to modern e-ink displays as replacement panels an adapter for the...

    68K PowerBook conversion

Thanks for finding that, it didn't show up when I searched. I knew about using an external display with the models equipped with that capability, but the 100 / 140 / 145 / 170 don't have that feature. It would be nice to "salvage" those machines with by adapting the LCD video output to an...

    68K PowerBook conversion

I didn't know that. Now I'll have to watch Hackers to see if I can spot them.

    68K PowerBook conversion

With so many PowerBooks becoming useless due to screen issues, has anyone tried to use the otherwise working boards by "converting" the system into a small Mac desktop? It seems the only major hurdles would be adapting the PowerBook display cable to VGA or HDMI, then finding a monitor that...

    Unexpected Utility

I love those 12" PowerBooks. I've never had one but wanted one since the first time I used it in an Apple Store. I had a 15" and loved it, but the 12" is my favorite — I think maybe because it is one of the most kawaii computers ever made. One day I hope to finally acquire one.

    New iBook G4 score!

Nice! That's in great condition. I always liked the appearance of the iBooks. I'm curious what you think of the performance after using it for a while. A decade ago I picked up a G4 iBook (don't remember the speed) but it was much slower than my G4 iMac 17" and 2005 Mini. After a year of...

    PowerBook 170 with e-ink screen

I love the idea. The only drawback I see is the high refresh rates for most e-ink displays. For example, the display linked above is "Full refresh time: <1s" which is very slow. In comparison, most modern LCDs are <=8ms. A gaming monitor is around 3ms.

    PowerBook 1xx Upgrade Questions

^ Thanks for the info. This explanation makes sense, unlike what was in the developer notes. It also explains what seems like an arbitrary memory limitation considered the 68030 (and MMU) doesn't have those same limitations.

    PowerBook 1xx Upgrade Questions

It doesn't really make any sense that the 68030 MMU limits the RAM to 16MB since there are so many other 68030 Macs that can use far, far more than 16MB. I remember having 17MB in a IIsi I owned back in 1991. I suspect it's something in the PowerBook ROMs that restrict the MMU to 16MB. While...

    PowerBook 1xx Upgrade Questions

I read through the developer notes for both the 165c and the 160/180 because the second is refereed to by the first. The 160/180 DN says: So if I understand this correctly, the MMU is the limiting factor? Do these PowerBooks have a different MMU than other 68030 Macs?

    Motorola 68060 upgrade

Wow, thanks for that info. It's a nice summary, and thanks for your work on it. As someone who has contributed to different open source projects over the years, I completely understand where you are coming from. True on both accounts, but it's nice to have more options. Open source can be a...
