Good info, thanks
As of now, firmware v2024.12.03 does not work with WiFi (and may in fact crash the device when WiFi is initiated), and firmware v2024-.11.01 does work without any issues I've found yet. Hope this helps someone else!
Okay, that fixed it! I had some initial issues - trying to configure using the WiFi Desk Accessory crashed the system a couple times - but just re-enabling WiFi in the INI file works fine now. Looks like something maybe broke in the latest firmware update?
Hi @zigzagjoe and/or any other knowledgeable folks: I've been playing with my SillyTinySCSI on my Macintosh Portable this week, and after a few early hiccups (took some kind people to point out that I needed to adjust the ZuluSCSI.ini file to use the Mac Plus setting), it's working great and my...
Oof - I stayed up way too late poking around in the ZuluSCSI docs / forum, but somehow missed this bit. Thank you for pointing this out! I'll definitely try changing the INI file to include "System=MacPlus" when I get back to playing with it later.
Fair point - up till now I've just been trying...
Hi all!
I've used various SCS2SD devices over the years and had good success with them, including on my backlit Portable. I'm now trying to use a new "SillyTinySCSI" ZuluSCSI dongle for the first time, and I'm so close to getting it working but haven't quite gotten over the line. As of now...
This looks incredibly cool, and like a fantastic companion to the Booster I already purchased from you! I do have a couple beginner-level questions:
Physically speaking, is it possible to install this Synchr030 + the Booster + a MacCon Ethernet card into an SE/30, or will I be running out of...
I have nothing of value to add here, but I'm glad that you told me to check out this thread when we met up earlier @jmacz - it's amazing what you've accomplished with this build! The crashes you're experiencing on (cold) boot must be annoying, but weirdly it reminds me of my first car, which...
He was really nice in person, but OMG he was very difficult to text with. I’d ask a simple question like “what address should I navigate to?” and he would reply with “Sure.” He also rescheduled our meetup three times *after* my wife and I had begun the ~90 minute drive to meet him, so I was...
You are not wrong - this thing gets super toasty after 20-30 minutes of use! I wonder if anyone ever made a "Kensington SystemSaver" type fan attachment for these displays? Or if something like that could be designed and 3D printed, perhaps using a fan that wouldn't introduce too much magnetic...
I've spent the past week or so attempting to coordinate with a gentleman who had listed a pair of Macintosh SE/30's on our local Facebook Marketplace. His listing included a few basic pics, with a title reading "Vintage mc computers" and a description that lacked virtually any useful details at...
Hi all,
My trusty Apple IIgs RGB display is starting to show its age - it works (mostly) but the image starts flickering wildly after it warms up (literally - this display gets quite hot after a while!).
I'm already planning to do a bit of solder reflowing just in case it's a cold solder...
I just spent a couple hours re-re-re-checking my work on this machine. My soldering won't win any prizes, but as best I can tell it was all done correctly - no continuity issues that I can find, polarities are correct, etc. I re-reflowed the solder joints on all the cable connectors (including...
Hi all,
I'm at the stage of my self-taught-repair-skills journey where I'm just knowledgable enough to be dangerous. Case in point: I have two 128k Macs - one "standard" and one which was upgraded to "Fat Mac" status, and both had issues:
- The Fat Mac would power on but it would take several...
I found a similarly-equipped MonsterMac a few months ago! I haven't had time to play with it yet, but your post is inspiring me to pull it out of storage and see what shape it's in. If nothing else, I'm quite curious to see if my ROM version matches yours. Fun project!

I can't guarantee anything of course, but at least visually the board looks great. Your point is valid though, I'll take a much closer look at those traces and see if anything looks amiss.
I actually haven't, that's a good idea. The board and internals are so clean and new-looking, I didn't...
Hi again everyone,
Thanks to @rickrob ’s generosity I was able to install 4 megs of “known good” RAM last night, along with the replacement ROM chips I sourced from eBay. Unfortunately the behavior is still the same: no chime, and shifting patterns of garbage / digital noise onscreen.
I’ve...
Okay, I've got a good news / bad news update:
Good news: I've carefully reflowed the major solder points on the analog board, which seems to have fixed the issue of the display going black randomly (and/or whenever the machine was moved even slightly)
Bad news: I received my fresh set of eBay...
Hey @Ortho'sDeli - curious if you ever proceeded with getting the "cap" from your BeBox scanned for 3D-printer-replication? I'd love to piggyback off your work and get my two missing caps replaced!
:)

Yeah makes sense. I went ahead and ordered a new set of ROM's - looking forward to swapping them in and seeing if the behavior changes. If not, I'll try swapping the RAM next...
