*best* Video card for a XServe G5

Ah, yes that might be the best option. But that said, a GF 5200FX is a pretty miserable card. the GF6200 (non-turbocache(turbocache cards are worse IIRC)) is already complete garbage. *shrug* Best to get a different computer. This reminds me of cloud trying to use an xserve for desktop tasks.

*best* Video card for a XServe G5

Short answer: Core Image: No. Quartz Extreme: Not with PCI. Long answer: Core Image: No.(as far as I am aware) Quartz Extreme.... perhaps. There is a hack to enable quartz extreme if the AGP version of the card supported it. but IDK if it still works with later Mac OS versions and whatnot...

Drive options for a Performa 550/575?

The problem with machines such as the LC/Performa 550 and 575 is that they used a cardedge-ish adapter plugged into the HDD. There is simply no room for any adapters at all or anything with it's connector in non-stock location unless you tear into the wiring harness. You would be better off...

    Socketed vs Soldered ... Fight!

Having a socket or not is NOT going to make a difference unless the contacts are really dirty(and then it probably does not even work). But of course you can still have cold solder joints on the soldered in CPU too. But still, if pins of your CPU are not making contact the board is likely not...

Apple AEK II and Apple USB Aluminum KBD

For old systems: IBM Model F and M or similar unicomp product. For newer ones where you want a meta key: Things with Cherry MX Blue switches.(such as my Das Keyboard Pro Model S) or perhaps a unicomp 104 key model. After using some real keyboards I cannot really find myself liking ones...

    ImageWriter II ribbon

In that case place the ribbon into the cartridge and manually wind the rest of it in? Or fold it up by hand into the cartridge just like it was originally. Yes, I know manually winding takes a long time and folding it would also take ages. That being said, I never actually removed my...

    Flashing SiL3112 with WiebeTech FW

That happens under some conditions. some cards do not work in certain DA/QS machines apparently. I had a QS2002 that would not boot with the same card that worked in my DA. I *think* I had another Sil3512 that the QS did boot with or something(I might not be remembering correctly) but the card...

easiest way to share files with os x 10.8

If one of your computers running OS 9 has USB you can use a flash drive. You can also look into FTP. Netatalk as well. ZIP disks&drives. those sorts of things.

Curious find in a Mac Plus

It looks like he already has the board out in that pic. but yea, you need more pictures if you are gonna talk about things like this. :p

    Fifty Shades Of Graphite

That was fast. Anyway, get out a welder and make a new framething from metal! That will last longer. :p Make a mould and cast one in aluminum! (or better plastic) :approve: Moddin sometimes takes a bit of work, just look at what Trash does. Also, if you are not going to make a proper...

    Mac-Mini ReDux Fail . . . but it's OK!

Gorg, yeah. I mentioned that to cory a couple days ago. I guess you have to be either trash or an admin to see em. *shrug* Trash, the ones in your recent 6500 thread are also similarly affected.

    Retrochallenge 2012 Summer Challenge

Oh, and the way things are set up now a person with their browser wider than it is tall cannot see all the letters of your image map because you have it forced horizontally and no vertical scroll bar. On my notebook I cannot see anything lower than " unless browser window size is changed...

    Retrochallenge 2012 Summer Challenge

And now an 800KB pdf to list the entrants? Ok, I can see where you are coming from with a scanned sheet, but in the future you are also going to have a normal not-pdf/image/etc list too, right?

    Retrochallenge 2012 Summer Challenge

300KB background image? No information whatsoever? What happened to the Retrochallenge site? I wanted to spam modern PC users with a link to RC(again) but now if they go there they would have no idea what is going on!

Connecting 68k Macs to LCD Monitors

My 486 board supports auto-detection. Though it would be a little late as it came with an AM486DX4-100. I am not sure how early 486 boards started supporting auto detection.
