adding 4mb SGRAM to PowerPC 5500/6500 ... and possible ATi Rage Pro upgrade

Finally, I've been waiting since late Sept for someone else to join me in swapping the ATi chip. I haven't swapped the VRAM though.

    I just plucked off R133 to drop the CPU from 300 to 275 and saw no change, I still see: 0 > f3000034 rl@ 8 u.r 7A1030E0 ok

That's my 6500/225. It has 8MB RAM soldered onboard, and I currently have it overclocked to 300MHz. It also has a non-functional Rage Pro Turbo PCI chip soldered onto it and is utilizing a Radeon 7000 as main display graphics card.

    Salvation Archive

The trouble with temporary links is that they are temporary, and someone looking for something specific may come across it too late. In the event that you are unable to upload these files yourself, perhaps to preserve privacy/anonymity an arrangement can be made with someone from the community...

PBG3 Wallstreet - How stiff is too stiff for the hinges?

Another issue those hinges had was the splines on a hardened pin sticking out of the clutches stripping out their mating splines cast into the upper hinge piece.

I still don't really understand why a privacy-minded individual can't make an account using a name not historically associated with themselves to post material like this on more established sites in the community, at least one of which is not indexed by search engines last I checked.... If the...

Why can't I burn an install disc for my Pismo from a modern Mac?!

This has also been my experience when it comes to burning speed, everybody says to do it slow and burning slow is when I have the most issues with my hardware. I've also had a rough time with reliability and the slim trayloading drives of the Lombard/Pismo/TL-iMac era, but if it otherwise reads...

adding 4mb SGRAM to PowerPC 5500/6500 ... and possible ATi Rage Pro upgrade

I think I have the needed voltages configured for 3.3v(ish) operation. Scrounged some parts from the PCI card I had ordered to fill in the PLLVDD bits for pins 110&115, it was originally sitting at 4.23v but is now down to 3.2v. The RAGE II currently runs with reduced voltages but I haven't...

Help Identifying a G4 CPU Upgrade

That heatsink was used on the FastMac branded upgrades as well. One thing of note might be the ©FM2003 on the bottom of the board near one of the mounting holes. Might be fun to browse through the ads in the back of Mac magazines sometime, there was some neat stuff back then...

adding 4mb SGRAM to PowerPC 5500/6500 ... and possible ATi Rage Pro upgrade

Just dropping a note in here, I'm interested in this topic and have a 6500 harness without a case for probing/prodding/etc. I'm currently waiting on parts to arrive, though it'll probably be a couple weeks.

    R7000 beige G3 issues

@pizzigri I'd like to get onboard with this, should probably break it out into it's own thread though. I'm not smart enough to faff around in OF alone, but I am dumb enough to solder random chips to my 6500. I have a PCI Rage Pro card on the way for parts and would like to follow along with the...

    R7000 beige G3 issues

I for one would be pretty excited to see cards like the 2MX and 4MX working in OldWorld machines. Right now I have a 6500 that can't use ATI cards for 3D acceleration due to some sort of conflict with the onboard ATI hardware. Granted, an OS new enough for a nvidia card is new enough to bog down...

Refurbished PowerMac 6500 Acting Up. Did I do it?

For the sake of testing I burned to a CD the first retail image on the MG 9.1 page and am currently installing on a 6500 from the CD to a CF card. MacOS91CD. I ran md5sum to verify that the zip file was intact, then after extracting I changed the extension from .toast to .iso and burned it with...
