I can't speak for anyone else, but this sounds very exciting!  Where would such schematics be?  I have the Inside Macintosh books which I think are online with PDFs as well.  I don't recall seeing them in there, but I have tons of hardware books of that era.

It can be a good clue, but more information is needed to confirm.  A look inside the machine should reveal if it is as well as S/N.

Have you considered swapping the strap/frame?  I don't see a reason why they wouldn't interchange from the picture.

@trag If you get the PEX ROM built, what do you think development wise can be done with such a ROM?  Do you think it could be used in a 8600/9600?  By the way, number 1 will never happen...  I've been trying for years. Also, I should mention that I have no intention of creating anything myself...

@trag Those are interesting, it appears that the chips on the second are still available from one of my contacts in China, which is a big surprise.  Not a big fan of their price but you only need 2...  

Aside from the issues with the ROM SIMM socket and possible bad traces, it looks quite tame.  If those two main parts are good, I suspect this would be a fairly easy fix.  I'd recommend nickel plating the chassis once the rust is all gone and a a rust inhibitor is applied.  It will make it looks...

Agreed!  If anyone finds an Apple 64pin 16mb or even 8mb, let me know. I’d be happy to have these reverse-engineered. 

I thought maybe it was something along the lines of keeping the parts in the Amiga community.  I did see someone a year or two ago with 16mb modules and I asked him if they will work for Macs and that guy said no as well.  I can't fathom that if the speed and nature of the chips is correct why...

As an incidental side note, I have seen others create 64pin SIMMs for Amiga but clearly say not for Macintosh use.  Does anyone know why exactly?  I can't be too hard to build new memory, at least I wouldn't think so.  I mean it would be nice to have 16mb modules for the IIfx.  If anyone knows...

Yeah, but I'm hoping the project will be open-source and serve as a platform for others to do fun things with as they please.  I just hope the Mac SE/30 is an interesting enough platform for people to want to work with.

No worries, these are probably a better fit for his machine as they are pre-owned and have that "used" look which would make the fact that one foot is different less noticeable.

Interesting concept, I like it!  Sounds like 90% of that is heavy lifting from a software prospective.  That is something neither my engineer nor I have the skill set for.  However, if anyone is interested in joining the project...  Let me know :)
