The later drives do work mechanically and electronically. Issue is that the slot is too small to push the disk in all the way. Have to use another disk to push the one you want to use into place. Dealt with this on one of my previous Centris 650 machines that had a PowerMac 7100 style drive...

Hmmm, I'd be tempted to chuck the drive into an A9M0106 and see if it works on the external port. If it does, then you've a motherboard issue involving the internal port. If not, then maybe one of the motors on the drive failed, or another component failed.

That might be a question to ask in the hacks forum... The IIf, like the IINT, and IINTX, doesn't have ethernet.

Picked it up today. Was able to get a paper tray for it. Seems like it's in working condition, so I should be able to connect it to one of my older Macs (in other words, everything except the MBP) and use it.

Laserwriter IIf. Needs a paper tray, but otherwise seems to be functional. Probably will upgrade the controller board to the g version, so it can be used on our ethernet network, instead of doing localtalk.

You can trash the Sound Manager 3.x extension on pre-PPC machines. Super Tetris works fine on both my IIfx and Quadra 650, running 7.5 and 7.6.1, respectively. If the Sound Manager extension is installed, the game is silent. I've even run Arkanoid on a LC 475 under 7.5.5. Again, works just...

It may. Don't remember enough about my old 7100/80 when it had 8.6 installed. I do plan to upgrade to 8.6 on the current machine, though. Just have to find where I put the installation discs.

Blood rare or medium rare? 😉 The Beige G3 I had was a production unit, so 'twas not mine, @NoTrueSpaceman. It's possible that it was a machine that the late Chris Mitchell from RE-PC might've owned. I do remember getting a Piltdown Man prototype 6100 board from him in 2012.

7.5 is basically 7 Pro with some of the Performa stuff added in. Pretty much 99.9999% of stuff that runs under 7.1 also runs under 7.5, btw.

As does the Quadra 630 and LC 630. Those require 7.1.2P, like the Performa variants of the LC 630.

Yup, PowerMacs are fully HFS+ compatible and can boot partitions larger than 2GB.
