Well I am going to have to walk back what now looks like an outlandish claim regarding the temperatures my 68040 reached!
I had recently rebuilt my Arduino based temperature sensor and, after the comments here, went back and realized I had connected my 5v into the Vin, instead of the 5v pin...
Before I would have said fairly accurate as I had previously calibrated with ice water and boiling water, but I checked again last night and was getting inconsistent results with boiling water - I need to confirm why the calibration hasn't held and then I'll remeasure and update as required but...
I recently added a Bolle Carrera040 to my IIci, using a 40mhz 68040 I bought from what I understand to be a reputable supplier on eBay. Everything worked fine but I was surprised at how hot the processor was to the touch. I ended up affixing a thermistor to the bottom of the processor, using...
This! I just fixed an SE30 this weekend by replacing UE8 and UF8 and bodging a bad connection on pin 1 of UE8 (which I think was the actual issue).
My SE30 had a clean looking motherboard which I recapped and while it worked I would get random crashes and address errors. After a while it...
A IIe platinum is my daily driver IIe. All decked out with 8mb of RAM and all slots filled. I can turn it on and it’s ready to load into proterm for bbsing before the CRT has warmed up.
I discharge the CRT whenever replacing analog boards etc but not once have I ever heard a discharge. I understand it’s just a fail safe in case the bleeder resistor fails (or you’re working on a really old ab without one)
Also I have a capacitor discharger and I’ve never a residual charge on...
I haven’t ever really heard the sound from the seasonic psu fan over the se30 fan but with the Astec psu case I’m thinking you’d be fine given that it’s pretty well ventilated and the se30 is a pretty low load. I’m also quite sure somebody did exactly this once in this thread.
Agreed on all of @cheesestraws comments regarding the CC. I have recapped two CC analog board and its cousin the LC575. I recall somewhere near 50 caps plus a couple of diodes known to overheat. They are still tempermental. One great piece of advice from someone here is to watch the grounding...
It would be interesting to run speedometer on this. I had a Transwarp 2325 in my classic back in the day which also did not have RAM on board limiting the speed up. It was definitely faster than stock but even at 25mhz it was no where near an SE30.
I always assumed SOS would be like prodos where you could drop to a basic prompt (basic.sys) and execute commands like cat for catalog and prefix to change directories etc.
Usually prodos loads into a program launcher of some sort and I’d imagine sos does the same thing. Are you able to get...
I replaced my IIsi PSU with a Seasonic ssp250sub. Works great. I have a little transistor circuit that maintained soft power. (did same mod with a IIci)
I've had good luck with Keystron in that all of the modules I've bought (a lot of 4MB 30 pin simms) have worked. I have a bad 16MB SIMM from OWC and gave up on trying to RMA it. The process was a bit of a pain and then they want you to send the old $11.99 SIMM back. With postage, well that's...
I bought a PB100 a few weeks ago. The person I bought it from said it just had a blank screen but I didn’t power it up before recapping to verify. After recapping everything (except for a couple of caps on the inverter that aren’t the same as other PB1xx models) it fired right up. I installed...
