    Spark while discharging 128K flyback

I heard somewhere (maybe a YouTube video about residential electrical work? I deep dived a bunch of those after I got my house) that the voltage/amperage required to screw with your heart is too low to show a visible spark/arc in most situations. So I tend to figure if you can see it you should...

    Mac PLus Q1/Q2 transistor replacements?

Hi! I have a problem with one of my Plusses that the repair book says requires the replacement of a resistor and the Q1 transistor, a Motorola U01. There's also some comments here and there implying that when doing repairs like this, you're supposed to replace the paired transistor in Q2. The...

    IIx died, possible bad PSU?

I know OP fixed their problem, but many years ago I had a IIx that doorstopped itself when the PRAM batteries died. Just want to put that out there in case somebody is googling this later.

Boot Speed vs High Ram Count - Quadra 950

More RAM would let you stick your browser cache on a RAM disk. That was a trick we used back in the dialup days. Not sure how much it would matter now, since network connections are often faster than SCSI-1.

powering internal bluescsi in performa 575 and 550

The internal blueSCSI uses a PC-style 4-pin floppy power connection. The hard drive power in the computer is provided by a 4-pin molex connector, which is also very, very common. Adapters are pretty common. https://www.amazon.com/4-Pin-Molex-Floppy-Drive-Power/dp/B0120G2Q4Y

Use modern-er input devices with Mac Plus?

Tinkerboy's store seems to have completely sold out. Was anybody else making something similar, or were the designs open sourced?

    ZuluSCSI 2 2040 Help w/ Mac Plus

Well, after a recap, I no longer get a black screen - now I get vertical lines. (I thought that meant a ROM problem?) And then the screens gets weirder from there. I got a BlueSCSI and that works like a charm so I double-don't-know-what's-going-on. If it was just a matter of wanting it to work...

    Mac Plus recap troubleshooting?

Well, I fixed it. Turns out I had a solder bridge between two pins on the analog board. (Pins 9 and 10, 12v+ and GND, of the connector that goes to the logic board.) Yay! I also have terrible eyesight. I need some kind of magnifying rig. :-(

    Mac Plus recap troubleshooting?

-12.14 on the -12v 5.01 on the 5v 11.81 on the 12v All measures off the floppy connector. The 12v might be a smidge low but overall those are pretty close to where they ought to be, right?

    Mac Plus recap troubleshooting?

Hey, Based on some advice in another thread I went ahead and did an analog and logic board recap on my Plus. It booted ok twice, but the third time the screen went blank. No sound from the speaker either. The yoke gives off that amber glow in the dark so I know the crt is getting power. The...

    ZuluSCSI 2 2040 Help w/ Mac Plus

So looking at this page: https://console5.com/store/computer-cap-kits/mac-68k-cap-kits/mac-plus-cap-kits.html I'm guessing I need the non-international Analog PCB kit at least. (I'm in the US and the computer is from here - I got it when I was ten.) Should I get the Main PCB cap kit as well?

    ZuluSCSI 2 2040 Help w/ Mac Plus

It won't boot with the Zulu attached at all. Just the same split second of question mark, then black screen. Pressing the reset button goes straight to black screen as well. The status screen on the FloppyEMU never shows disk access either. (Normally it will show what track/position is being...

    ZuluSCSI 2 2040 Help w/ Mac Plus

So I have a Mac Plus which boots fine from a Floppy EMU. It makes some funny noises and I need to recap some stuff, but it boots and has 4MB of RAM. I wanted to go the SCSI route with a ZuluSCSI though, so I got the Mini RP2040 (external SCSI device, DB25 port). I was able to hook it up to my...

    flyback transformer

There are some on eBay for like $150 apiece. Otherwise it's buying old analog boards and hoping you have a good transformer to pull. IIRC the transformer itself is common between the 128/512/Plus/SE/SE30 even if the analog board is different.

Keyspan Serial Adapter Not Recognized (QS G4)

The Keyspan assistant can provide some port monitor capabilities, so you can see if the data is being sent. A draft mode page from simple text will be short and obvious. Might be the cable you’re using. Early Apple printers required a “crossover” or null-modem style serial cable, but LocalTalk...

Keyspan Serial Adapter Not Recognized (QS G4)

Okay, so success, sort of. I tried several different driver revisions, none worked. But on a hunch, I plugged in into my PC, and the device manager gave me some weird errors that I usually associate with defective hardware. So I bought another one of the same adapter and it was recognized...
