    Netatalk 4.0 - Future-proofing Apple File Sharing

Ok, I spun up a Bookworm VM and was able to build Netatalk 4. Tomorrow I'll fire it up and take it for a spin. However, it's NAT'ed out to my network from the VMware 10. so may take some work to get clients talking to it.

    Apple II psu potentiometer

That's a voltage adjustment, probably for the +5V line. Don't connect it to a motherboard until properly (re)set! The power supply needs to be checked with loads on the outputs. Maybe someone has a link to a tutorial?

    Netatalk 4.0 - Future-proofing Apple File Sharing

I looked at Bookworm, but am seeing that KDE desktop support is "iffy". I'll take it for a test drive in a VM. Anyway, enough off-topic chatter :)

    Netatalk 4.0 - Future-proofing Apple File Sharing

I know nothing about Docker, but can certainly setup a VMware guest OS for the purpose. I really should start thinking about a new distribution, but I cannot and will not use anything that relies on SNAPs. Philosophy aside, SNAP installs don't work from an NFS mounted home directory.

    Netatalk 4.0 - Future-proofing Apple File Sharing

Unfortunately many of the required packages for Ubuntu build are too new for my environment. Due to persistent breakage I do not upgrade unless forced to by cutoff of security patches. Still on Ubuntu 18.04 here. If/when I upgrade my system I'll be glad to to do some testing.

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Heh. Ok, thanks for clarifying. So far everything has been working as advertised!

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

I have been away from Apples for a bit, but just got back to pickup the thread here again. I notice the latest TashRouter has a new interface called MacvtapPort but still retains the older TapPort. My startup program uses the latter. What is the difference between them? Is there a reason I'd...

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Nice work, all! I need to get busy and build a patched kernel for my Tashrouter Pi.

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

I just pulled the latest code and am pleased to report that Apple 2 clients are still 100% happy!

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Doesn't that imply the IIe would have session problems with both? I used it with a FastPath 4 for years before getting my first Gatorbox. Never had a problem. IIRC, it was the FP 5 that never cooperated.

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Everything is working fine for me. Spent a boring hour bringing various Apple machines up and down, netbooting, browsing, etc. No problems at all. Here's my first attempt at a dedicated 3d printed case. A lot of hand rework involved to get things fitting correctly. Now to put a gun to my...

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

I think there are some electrical issues with a direct connection due to the way the tashtalk hat localtalk interface is designed.

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

A bit tight on time this AM, but SE/30 and IIe are behaving themselves. I'll do some further testing with ethertalk clients this evening. Thanks for the update!

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Ah, I think we're talking past each other. Chooser was not the issue. It was the Appletalk control panel. The machine is a 32 MB SE/30 running System 7.5.5. There are a number of things installed, but nothing network related.

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Yes, you have me wondering as well. The info box reports that Open Transport is installed - would that make a difference?

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Interesting. I'm using the same tun/tap setup and seeing no issues at all with Macs on the LT side. Everything shows up as expected on both sides of the router. The only difference is that I use the tashrouter to seed both ethernet and localtalk. I assume you edited the code to prevent seed...

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Glad to be of help! TashTalk and TashRouter are essentially ready to become a replacement for obsolete LT-Ethernet hardware. To that end I'm working on a re-mix of one of the Pi Zero case designs with the proper cut out for the LocalTalk jack. Will post STLs here when it's done. It would be...

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Yes, the SE/30 was on LocalTalk. And, yes, your suggested workaround above fixes the issue! Not only is it now showing the Zone, but the lookup runs about 10x faster. It used to pause for 5-10 seconds after the Appletalk control panel icon was selected - now it pops up instantly. The SE/30...

    TashRouter: An AppleTalk Router

Everything is not only good, it's better! Netboot now works on the IIe. Happiness ensues... Last remaining nit: The SE/30 still insists < no zones available > Otherwise it's working fine. I can connect to the server and mount volumes. Do you want me to apply any of the patches you're...
