    wthww's conquests

Yo, I've had time to spend with the machine and I've come to the conclusion it is now my favorite 68k powerbook. The dark plastics, larger screen & full '040 really make it for me. The machine sadly has a few issues, namely: The floppy drive eats floppies. (Yeah, I know right? The head is...

    wthww's conquests

Thanks for all the replies, guys! It was. This machine was imported. It also has the rare-as-hen's-teeth revision c pcmcia cage, so I'm set as far as powerbooks for a good long while. I'm planning on installing NetBSD on it and making it a regular-use machine. Fun times! //wthww

    wthww's conquests

Hello, all! I have not acquired anything partcularly interesting a quite a while now; that has changed. I was able to purchase this off of another long time member. Kudos to him, he sold it to me for a quite reasonable sum over eBaying it. One more thing... Enjoy, //wthww

    2013-10-11 phpBB version update

Hello once again, Now that the dust has settled I'd like to let everyone know of a few upcoming changes. The theme "subsilver2" is now deprecated and will be removed soon. Please set your theme to "prosilver" in the UCP. The bugs we've encountered so far have all been fixed, including the...

    Cosmo's latest . . .

This is a truly awesome fine. Congrats, Cosmo! You might take 'em to a gamestop or family video and have them resurface the CDs. Most have that machine these days. Also, just a friendly reminder. No warez on the forums; however, a PM never hurt anyways. //wthww

    2013-10-11 phpBB version update

Hello once again! We have successfully updated the version of phpbb3 our boards are running, as well the Japanese language pack was installed. As far as I can tell it went swimmingly; if you find anything that is broken, feel free to PM myself or Cory5412. We also idle on the IRC and it is...

    My Latest ...

Nice, job mcdermd. On a side note, are you OK uniserver? I don't particularly care about what someone does in his or her free time, but innuendo like that may not be appropriate for the MLA. Shad carpets, animals... next we'll be talking about closets! //wthww

    web servers for A/UX

Just a small bit of advice... try boa, specifically the .92 version. It is incredibly easy to port and very, very efficient. As far as using an SE/30 24/7, it should be fine saying its been recapped. Just turn the brightness down; however, I'd use the 650 if you've got a real '040 in it. A/UX...

    FREE iMac G5

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but the iMac G5 is possibly the worst computer ever produced by apple on many fronts. I'd keep the MDD and sell these. They arent worth the trouble. //wthww

    Free Pismo

I actually have that pismo now. After serving its purpose for Cory for a few years he graciously gave it to me. I've restored it to a very nice condition, with one puzzling issue: No sound. My first thought was replace the dc/sound board. No dice after two transplants. :/ I'll have to dig it...

    more A/UX executables

I be to differ. glinks would prolly be the best solution for a browser that supports images, but in order to get that along you are looking at getting the libs for jpeg & png compiled and getting X11R6 onto it. I may install a/ux onto my SE/30 just to poke around with it. @Christrekker...

    My Power Macintosh 9500 Server

I have to say my 9500 was a champ while it was my server boxen. Sadly its dead according to Dog Cow :( . I'll loved the hostname I gave it too, "stoplock". Admittedly I ran Linux on it, but it ran very well. //wthww

    OS X Finder Question...Change from OS 8/9 That's Odd...

Being able to work "humanely" is just as subjective has being "humane". I find the current iteration of MS Office to be acceptable, but thats not to say I dont love me some Claris Works. //wthww

    Interest in PCI Powermacs?

True. I actually used a PM9500 affectionately named stoplock as a server box for quite a while. Stoplock is now with Dog Cow; iirc it doesnt want to bootup :( . I've moved on a far better server box these days. People-eater is my current and most adorable server ever. Back on topic. I hope...

    Interest in PCI Powermacs?

Well, NetBSD would be great with a huge-huge-huge caveat, at least for me. You need to have a real pci video card, ATi or NVidia. The on-board video is insufficient, as well as the twin-turbo 128. NetBSD/Linux just don;t like those cards at all, plus they dont provide much in the way of...

    SCORE!!! Curb: PM G3 B&W!!!

Just a little tidbit I thought I'd add; be careful naming your machines. Its kind of like naming a pet, in that once you name it you love the thing to pieces and its much harder to get rid of. ;) //wthww

    Interest in PCI Powermacs?

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like other Macs or Mac clones couldn't accomplish this feat; As ClassicHasClass mentioned, you can indeed bootstrap OF from a floppy, But I prefer to set the boot-device string. Sad that the temp trio has too long of a device path tho. //wthww

    Interest in PCI Powermacs?

Its actually pretty simple. You just install Netbsd on a machine with OF 1.0.5 and it does all of it for you. One thats done, you set your boot device to /path/to/:0 and it works. Same applies to booting the cd to install. boot /path/to/:0 and it boots right up. As far as Linux, the installer...
