I've started work on an MVP 3D printable replacement - funnily enough this exact project is what motivated me to finally pick up Blender! Mine is not an exact recreation, but is designed to hold an additional fan in place of the hard drive to improve airflow - but the general shape is the same...
I had to redo C36 on my LC475, the traces go really close to the pad and my capacitors are too big. Might be worth taking another look especially if you have bad mask? (C35 might have similar) These are the ones next to the RAM socket, though I don't know if they are actually involved with the...
It might be possible to use WishIwere to spoof a different identity - I have never tried it myself, but it may be worth a shot before you do hardware mods? http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/wish-i-were-v20
Ah, I don't have a method for it removal that does not include destroying the component! Maybe someone else knows.
If you are attempting to overclock the machine I'd recommed just using the excellent software overclock INIT developed here...
I just did my LC475 last week which has the same "red glue" situation. This was my first logic board recap, and it was successful! Note that the logic board was in good shape with no obvious leakage so ymmv. Here is how I approached it:
1. instead of hot air, I twisted the capacitors off using...
I love these things! I am lucky to have two LC475s in working condition and they are a joy to work on. I made an overview of the various upgrades I've done to mine.
- RAM might be too high, since it will increase the boot time unless you have a way to bypass the RAM check (think this needs a...
Got it working now! No idea why it didn't work earlier, just seemed like the setting wouldn't stick but it's happily cranking away at 40MHz under System 7.1 now (with appropriate System Enabler ofc)
I took apart a Quadra 950 (PSU dead, RIP) and salvaged the 33MHz 040. Runs great at 40MHz in my LC475 - awesome work! Only thing is I couldn't get it to work in System 7.1 so I'm on 7.5.3, might take another run at it since 7.1 on a 40MHz 040 would just be blazing fast 😍
I would love a solution for this. My ideal solution would be to remove the HDI-45 connector from the logic board and replace it with a DA-15 connector and be rid of those cursed objects forever 😄 but unfortunately I have no idea if that is feasible!
I had an issue with my DOS compatibility card where I had seated the 486 wrong, and the Quadra it was sitting in flatly refused to boot - it powered on but didn't POST. Once I fixed the 486, it booted no problem. It was a but tricky for me since the 486 doesn't have the "cut corner" to show how...
Thank you! I really don't like this trend in macOS and wish there was a general "I know what I'm doing"-setting, but at least there are (increasingly tedious) workarounds
It's a smaller one - S1911 I got for free from some guy who was giving it away, I guess because it's an older model (VGA and DVI inputs iirc). Think it's 5:4 not 4:3 since the native resolution is 1280 x 1024, but I like the squareness!
I swapped in a Noctua NF-R8 redux for my Quadra 700 PSU and it works great! I just had to swap the black and red wires around and ignored the yellow completely 😄 This picture is from before the swap - top is the noctua, bottom is the original fan.
Congratulations on getting your 610 up and running! Mine is still refusing to output video 😅
For OS, it depends on what software you want to run - but I highly recommend 7.1 for 68k macs! It's a little more work to set up than 7.5, but it's super snappy and you can get 7.5.3-like compatibility...
