And I'm back! I love this keyboard, but had to switch it out when I got that Apple IIe card because the escape key is how you switched back to the Mac side when in Apple II mode. Thanks again!
Ah, I didn't think about being able to cut the trace after removing the switch... Brilliant! And I already re-assembled my keyboard... Back to the workbench...
Thanks so much for getting this information!
Added new components, ran bodge wires where the pads had lifted, and the machine boots again! Unfortunately, the lack of soft power off that it had before it stopped working at all remains. I verified I have continuity from UB13 pin 1 and UE9 pin 60, which I believe has the soft power signal...
Actually, after looking at the board, I just realized the traces for the X pin for those appears to be on the top of the board, and unless I'm mistaken, I won't be able to access the top of the board without removing every switch. So, looks like I might need to order another batch of PCBs and...
I believe it does. So If I attach a key switch with the top right pin to the top right pin of wither TAB or CAPS LOCK, and the bottom left pin to the bottom left pin from the right shift or UP ARROW key, that should enable that switch to function as an escape key, Then I could cut the traces...
100%. I just don't understand enough about the circuit to know where I'd need to do that. If you can give me an idea of how I'd need to setup the new switch to send an escape signal, I'd definitely go for it. I'd be willing to document it for you and others. And as you said, I could do a...
@demik, I love my keyboards. One problem I ran into recently is that I use it with my Color Classic. Recently, I got an Apple II card for it, and found that I finally can't live without an escape key. How easy / hard would it be to make one that maps the page up / page down keys to escape and...
I definitely had some damage under those ICs...
When the new chips come in, I'll have some bodge wires to run, but thanks for the schematic to make it easier to track down where things should go.
@MrFahrenheit , did you ever find out what was causing this? I have a Iici that was working fine until a few days ago when it started doing the same thing. Seems to be warm up related because it seems to be causing a short or something that triggers the PSU to shut off. Then it refuses to...
Yeah, I had seen that. Looking to do something a little more polished. I have a large number of 6100s that I'm trying to fix up to sell for cheap to other vintage Mac people in my area, and want to avoid them having something fragile or having to buy an expensive adapter. The DB-15 to HD-15...
Actually, I was originally thinking to create an external adapter, but doing some sort of PCB to to convert the existing connector to a standard DB-15 might be a better approach. Especially if you could fit it in the case opening where the HDI-45 went. I may start looking into it, although...
I have a bunch of 6100s I picked up recently with no adapters. Was trying to mock up a PCB, but my board design skills are lacking. Would love to pair a simple PCB with a cable such as this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CHNN9J96/ref=sw_img_1?smid=A29TUTMZHZRSW7&th=1) to make an adapter...
FYI, these 3d printed connectors work fantastic. I used them in combination with another project on TinkerDifferent to house a USB-C trigger board and buck or boost converter. I had some problems with the buck / boost boards overheating, and the standard 15v you can get out of a USB-C trigger...
I tested to the legs to make sure there wasn't a socket issue. I'll keep digging in and maybe look into what it would take to get an oscilloscope. If nothing else, this is a good challenge. :)
Playing around with it a bit more to see if I can get a better understanding of the issue(s). Looks like it's more than just the characters being messed up. I ran the Diagnostics disk and hit enter on the first option (run all tests?). I get this screen:
So it looks like the pucture is...
Sadly, no oscilloscope or any knowledge of how they work. I might need to do some more studying on some of the YouTubers to get an idea of what things to check for.
I did check the traces from the video control ROM and they all checked out (except the two I could not find the destination for...
Interesting. I was thinking it was like the character ROM and the distorted symbols was a sign of that. But it wouldn't have explained the fact that the characters were in the wrong place on the screen. I'm hoping maybe something in the functionality of that video control ROM might be the...
