    Rediscovering my old obsession

My rug rat was born in '85, so his first experience was on a 512K I had at home for doing graphics in Fontographer. He played MacPaint on 'pooter and was so excited to upgrade to SuperPaint. After I got a PC set up he was just thrilled to play KidPix in color! IOW, he played graphics, never...

Erm, exactly how sure are you of that?;) Nice job, love it.

What to buy LC475 or Performa 630

Indeed, love the Quadra 630 and pretty sure I have all the expansion cards for the AV Slot and the NIC somewhere around here. I bought it on first release at Tekserve as a backup machine for the IIx/Rocket33 graphics machine in the shop. The TV Tuner setup came with the credit size remote, that...

Replacing IDE HDD with optical drive on Performa 6320CD

IDE is handled within the SCSI architecture of the Mac, but is IDE as far as the Drive is concerned. 630/190 are natively IDE, sorta kinda.

Replacing IDE HDD with optical drive on Performa 6320CD

Exactly, no complaints about the switch to IDE in the Quadra 630/PB190 and up at all. The switch was even earlier. High end BlackBirds, employing an interstitial adapter for higher capacity IDE drives. Exactly what I said "It's an abomination in terms of a somewhat/kinda/sorta sub-standard...

Replacing IDE HDD with optical drive on Performa 6320CD

I doubt you will ever get an Optical drive or any device other than a single IDE drive to be addressed on that cable. It's not a simple ROM limitation, much lower level in the hardware. It's an abomination in terms of a somewhat/kinda/sorta sub-standard implementation of the IDE spec. Apple...

Replacing IDE HDD with optical drive on Performa 6320CD

Thought about that, but a pithy comment is hard to resist.;) Don't remember if the cable's long enough to stretch that far, FDD offset and all. But a paperback of appropriate thickness under the Optical would work as well.

    The locks arrived!

I wonder what it would cost to have a locksmith probe and fab a key for these locks? They're simple as a small padlock after all. A phone call doesn't cost a cent.

Replacing IDE HDD with optical drive on Performa 6320CD

Indeed, but just checked the length of the IDE cable. It can easily reach an optical sitting in front of the HDD bay as can the power cable. Drive may be upside down, but ready for testing with the CD inserted via power cable only hookup before IDE cable is installed. ;)

Replacing IDE HDD with optical drive on Performa 6320CD

IDE was a barely just kinda compliant abomination in that series. It supported only a single HDD and I'd be very surprised if it's possible to interface with an Optical Drive.

Got this cool looking, old terminal.

My old Gerber "SignMaker" had a unitized KBD/MoBo like that. All the keyswitch signals went thru some I/O chip or other on the board. It might be as simple as pulling or desoldering such a chip and replacing it with a board to wedge the keyboard at that source and feed it right into the Pi...

SE/30 PDS Card stacks & CRT Anode EMI

Are you sure about that? The standard neckboard position on the rotated tube would be what keeps the image upright, no? If the neckboard must be rotated due to positioning of the CRT's pins, MacPortrait or the like will be required to rotate the image 180 degrees I'd think.

SE/30 PDS Card stacks & CRT Anode EMI

That's exactly what I was wondering! I imagine it's positioned purposely to make discharging the CRT convenient. It'd be a real problem if flipped upside down. Card stacks are an interesting endeavor. Apple's maximum PDS expansion card spec doesn't come close to the Anode Cap.

Has anyone run a 1080p or 1920x1200 panel in Portrait Mode under 9.2.2?

Thanks much, any help at all is most appreciated.

Has anyone run a 1080p or 1920x1200 panel in Portrait Mode under 9.2.2?

Tried SwitchRes 2.5.3 with no joy there either. However I did think to message them with a request for release of the source code for that and the earlier version. We'll see what happens, we might get lucky? Thinking it's likely not what I need to achieve Portrait Mode in 1920x1200 or even...

Has anyone run a 1080p or 1920x1200 panel in Portrait Mode under 9.2.2?

MacPortrait appears to max out at ancient TPD resolutions. Is there a current solution? Windows and Ubuntu have had me spoiled for the longest. The last time I ran a second screen in that orientation on a Mac it was the Macintosh Portrait Display on the 2300c/DuoDock+ next to the...

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI cards, converting from 64-bit to 128-bit and other details

Yep, makes sense, I'll probably post to OS9Lives, that's where I found reference to MacPortrait, which is from the 7.1 days and has a list of resolutions to match, nothing current apparently. Looks like @Bolle worked it over to bring it up to 9.x compatibility, so that'll be great on the older...

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI cards, converting from 64-bit to 128-bit and other details

VidCard arrived today and it drives the 1920x1200 panel just fine over DVI, thanks, obsolete! Swapped the cables just to see and the first one you sent me does as well when hooked up to the HPZR24w. New one's back to only 1920x1080 when hooked up to the Dell 1440p, so it's time to dig out the...

If you could bring back classic Mac OS software, what would it be?

Yep, 9.3 with upgraded USB and much larger Disk Partitions would be fabulous, no IOS crappiness. Buggage free 9.1.1 re-release for older machines that top out at 9.1 would be quite nice as well.
