    Installer SDK tips?

Lots of applications used it though. Stuffit InstallerMaker was another popular installer package of note. I played with it a bunch way back when (sadly, the hard drive with all my earliest stuff crashed years ago; I still have it though, so it may be possible to recover it someday). c

My wife and I have adopted a 41-year-old baby named Lisa

I saw that Lisa! I was tempted to get it myself, but I didn't have the means. I'm glad you got it though! I would love to have one myself someday, but I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it'll likely never happen because the prices are simply too high, and my budget is...

TashSync: Macintosh Video Sync Signal Converter/Generator

They are! They definitely are better than Selenium rectifiers, which are finicky, bulky, and prone to releasing copious amounts of acrid, toxic smoke when they fail. Thankfully they're not a problem for virtually any computer built within the past ~45 years (we got RIFAs instead, which are...

Bare Metal Classic Mac 'OS' and SDK!

Apparently he has released a disk image of the compiled chip-8 demo as seen in the video, which is the next best thing: https://github.com/KenDesigns/Chip4Mac68000/blob/main/build.dsk c

    G5 quad. Is it dead?

If I ever get around to fixing one of my Quads (I have one which no doubt is completely dead, and another that allegedly worked when I got it almost 10 years ago), I'm going to have to convert it to air cooling. Odds are that between the two, I can find enough parts to get one working machine...

Solving the Powerbook G3 hinge issues: aftermarket hinges

I have several sets of hinges that are floppy. They work, insomuch as they more or less hold the screen where it's supposed to be, but, well, they flop, which makes using them a bit annoying. And the hinges on my one good Pismo are a also bit floppy, but less than the others and adequately...

So got three surprises in one computer

Interesting. So, if I'm understanding correctly, the addresses of the upper 16 or so MB wrap back around and overlap with the bottom 16 MB, causing all sorts of mayhem. If this is true, then the RAM can be upgraded past 64 MB and the PowerBook will dutifully report the amount (81 MB, in this...

So got three surprises in one computer

Perhaps that issue is mitigated by the G3 upgrade? c

TashSync: Macintosh Video Sync Signal Converter/Generator

I have some Tobies! And a Mac II! But, alas, no scope. And My Mac II needs a recap to be operable. *sigh* c

    AS/400 Connectivity

I swear that all these "upgrades" meant to replace all those "primitive" POS systems from the 80s and 90s with slick 'n click systems that do everything have only made things worse. They are slow, cumbersome, and people can't figure out how to use them because the UI was designed by idiots who...

    PowerMac 7600 3.3v ram

Which is easier to find? It seems like most PCs of the time used 3.3V RAM (unless I'm mistaken), which, naturally, makes that the easier of the two types to find. I have a PowerTower Pro/225 I wouldn't mind maxing out someday. c

Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh tuner board burned

We here in the US will probably be able to enjoy analog Am and FM forever. It's the content that's disappearing. Ultra conservative talk, religious preaching and ethnic programming aren't my thing, and that's like 90% of what AM is putting out nowadays. FM still has some life in it, but it's...

Issues Booting MacOS 9 on Power Mac G4 450 DP

When you installed OS 9 to the hard drive over FW, did you check that OS 9 drivers were installed on the Power Mac's drive? The Mac OS 9 installer should update the driver when you install, but maybe it didn't update correctly, causing it to get corrupted somehow? Can you use another, blank...

    USB on Mac OS 9

Unless you did something extra special, Classic Mac OS doesn't support anything other than USB 1.1. It will support USB 2.0 peripherals (as you've seen), but it will always run them at USB 1.1 speeds, even on hardware that otherwise supports higher 2.0 speeds. c

    ClassicGuyPhilly's Finds

This feels very quaint now. Whereas NT was relatively locked down by the standards of the time (1997ish - 2003ish), compared to modern Windows and other modern OSes such as macOS (and especially iOS), it's wide open and access to its inner workings is about as free and clear as you can get...

    ClassicGuyPhilly's Finds

The AMD K6-2, I believe, can actually be a decent CPU, and I think was prized on its ability to overclock. The perception of "not-that-great" performance, I guess, stems from the fact that many of them were installed in low budget PCs whose performance was often mediocre. Plus Windows 98...

    VCF Swap Meet 2025 Haul

OK, no rush! I've been sitting on these parts for, I think, 10 to 15 years now (they're leftovers from when I built my nicely equipped, good condition Pismo (with working batteries!)), so another few days/weeks/months won't matter too much :) c
