SuperMac Spectrum - The one that started it all

Curiously it seems the card actually supports 1016x768 and not 1024x768 in both ROMs. Close enough...I wonder why they ended up 8 pixels short.

    Fast! CompactFlash for Macintosh PDS/NuBus

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I assume you referenced Technote 15? Both the Rockets and the 8-24 GC can master, if you need reference examples. Based on the locked transfer count they can also do bursts of 2 and 16, respectively. I think the GC only bursts to speak to other cards (to...

    Fast! CompactFlash for Macintosh PDS/NuBus

That's awesome. Theoretically you could do DMA with PDS, too?

    Fast! CompactFlash for Macintosh PDS/NuBus

From a technical standpoint, is this putting the IDE controller directly on PDS/NuBus together with a ROM driver? Or is the card doing more work to translate between a proprietary driver command set and ATA PIO? At this rate, next time you start a new thread you'll be putting ISA cards in your...

Calling all ROMs! Collecting DeclROM data

You can verify without a known-good copy as the DeclROM appears to cover the entire ROM image: I recalculated the checksum with bbraun's declrom tools: http://www.synack.net/~bbraun/declrom.html. I get the same sum that's in the ROM header: 7611A938. Thus it is not damaged.

    GemStart Drivers Various Versions

I've obtained copies of 1.1b and 2.0.3. Probably interesting just from a historical perspective. These came off a 2.0.3 disk but it had clearly been modified, so unsure if these are complete. 1.1b comes with a tool to patch AppleTalk, but I'm missing installation instructions. 2.0.3 had a...

Wombat (650, 800) board overclocking limitations

700 will do much better with a clock doubler in the socket. Keeps it stock too...ish! Sadly they're unobtainium and Bolle only made one lot of clones. We can only be so greedy 😛 .

Pushing the Apple PowerPC 601 upgrade card to 80MHz (in 40MHz Quadra 800)?

It's large yeah, but mine gets burning hot to the touch. I had some airflow problems and ran into similar symptoms...it only worked when it was cool. That said, that's with the FC rated at 66MHz. But the cache chips isn't a bad theory so I'm interested to see if that turns out...maybe my...

Wombat (650, 800) board overclocking limitations

Yeah CayMac is good to use, as you found. I used the identical gestalt 59 timings, yeah, just spun a ROM hack myself. I did tweak the ROM speed to minimum wait states (25MHz config) since that works fine with modern flash ROM SIMMs, as noted above. The heat sink I have is the one that comes...

Wombat (650, 800) board overclocking limitations

If you have a flashable ROM and a socket, the best option if you want to change it is flashing a ROM with 40MHz timings for the Q800. No weirdness with the gestalt ID and fully reversible without getting out the soldering iron again. That's my 2 cents anyway. They do seem to run alright at...

Pushing the Apple PowerPC 601 upgrade card to 80MHz (in 40MHz Quadra 800)?

You probably bought the same 80MHz part I did to try to repair my broken upgrade card. PPCA601FF-080c-2? It looks pretty legit to me, but I haven't tried mine yet. It's much harder to fake these because the glass/epoxy(?) packaging would show any damage from grinding off the label and printing a...

Classic II possible ROM bug, weird 68030 instruction

I've tried to compile links to all the Motorola data here: https://eharmon.net/retro/macintosh/motorola-processors/

    Digidesign NuBus expansion box

Yes, newer firmware can use flux images, if you store in MOOF.

    NuBus cards with no DeclROM?

Stranger still support seems to be entirely self-contained within the app. It finds the card and loads a DRVR for it.

    SuperMac Thunder II 1600 Unboxing

Thanks! Just a date code before the 001 then. That indicates it's the parallel version. I'll pull some info into the other thread, but here's the B-rev datasheet: https://www.renesas.com/en/document/dst/1562b-datasheet?srsltid=AfmBOop4fRWL3BeAPUZ7ONOKFfxSAQnSwKVGSBT90tUDrgEEKe-Ti17S Seems like...

    SuperMac Thunder II 1600 Unboxing

Can you read the part number off the U226 below the cap? ICS1562AM? Also curious to know what's before the -001, if you can see it.

Running the Thunder II 1360 at 1600x1200

Some observations: Generally the 1600 has reduced horizontal blanking at all resolutions. The first section of the unknown BSR data is different in each timing set. This difference is the same for all timings. 1360: 50020600 1600: 31020600 The unknown SMT02 data is slightly different in each...
