Download Info - "Curated" link list

Hi, I was frustrated not being able to browse download.info.apple.com files the way it use to be. Since there is a lot of essential content there, I was looking for a way to get a least a listing. Thanks to archive.org I've managed to get a list of known files, excluding known bad ones (ie...

Introducing scuzEMU, a SCSI Emulator Utility

I was hoping for a tool like this few days ago, incredible work! I wish I could help you on this project, but I don't know a single think about Classic development. Maybe it's the opportunity to try diving into this!

PM 6500: Specific hard drive causes instability?

Same experience here, with 6400, 5400 and few others too. Pretty much everything above 120GB may go wrong with pre-G3 hardware. EIDE is also quite a nightmare when you try to use SSD with SATA adapters. I switched to IDE HDD with a 120GB limit jumper (the drive will act as a smaller drive to...

    4400 no video.

You won’t be able to use a 5V 168-pin RAM in a 3.3V slot and vice-versa, unless you broke something. There is 2 notchs on the RAM connector, changing based on the RAM voltage and RAM type (unbuffered, buffered). There is a nice schema here: http://ps-2.kev009.com/eprmhtml/eprma/h870.htm What...

LC VRAM "For Mac LC Only" -- any risk using in a Performa 467?

Hi, LC only VRAM is probably 100ns VRAM, which is also fine in a LCII but an LCIII will require 80ns VRAM. It could work, you only may encounter video problems.

Rebuilding an Apple Network Server ANS 500

True, true,… just me hating messing with thoses as I know almost nothing about electronics. And replacing a dead PSU with a modern one bugs me, it’s kinda stupid I can’t tell why. 😅 @dramirez Oooooh thanks for share this video, this seems to be exactly the problem I have. I’m currently openning...

Rebuilding an Apple Network Server ANS 500

Time for part 2! I didn’t prepare the photos for this part, as I was eager to progress on the ANS before posting this second part so I would be able to tell you about an epic rebuild and finish with a: « It’s alive! ». Unfortunately, well it’s not. At least not anymore at the moment. Let me...

Tales of a bombed Quadra 700: the "short" lived victory

I wasn't, but the resistance is pretty low, around few ohms, I took some time to check against a working Quadra 700. Good to know, Quadra 700 have a very low resistance between the 5V rail and the ground, no need to freak out like I did. I started to continue cleaning up the bombed Quadra 700...

Tales of a bombed Quadra 700: the "short" lived victory

Hello, Let me tell you the terrible tale of the bombed Quadra 700. Do you feel that sensation traveling your spline? Fear! You name it! That’s the feeling I had when I took off the shelf this freshly bought Q700 and I heard something moving… Removing the top revealed what everyone fear the...

    Macintosh Classic won't start

You should remove the flyback and the speaker. Never had problems with transformers. I always rinse the board before removing the caps to get rid of most of the gunk and the infamous fish smell, let it dry, then remove all caps, then do a deap clean, then resolder everything, the only classic...

    ANS 500 Rom

No, a system dump is a partial or complete copy of the RAM not the whole address space (that would be huge). The ROM maybe cached in the RAM but I have absolutly no knowledge about this.

    ANS 500 Rom

Thanks! System dumps are a different thing, as far as I know it’s not able to do a ROM dump. I’ll try to find a command compatible with AIX, so we can dump the ROM. Just ordered mine yesterday, but it will took sonme time before I could get the ANS back to life. I’m wondering if there is...

    ANS 500 Rom

Yes the ROM dump is probably the trickiest part. I might be able to build a ROM module if I can find a already designed PCB and the proper EEPROM. Here is what I already find so far: http://sphinxgroup.org/Apple_pinouts/Firmware_Module_Pinout.txt...

    ANS 500 Rom

Found none so far… but it’s likely that my only solution is to find a dump and make a repro (which is out of my capabilities) . Unless someone has one from a dead ANS.

    ANS 500 Rom

Thanks for asking! Yes, in the service manual there is no part number for the ROM. :( It seems to be the same as the 9500/9600 format but with 8 chips, unfortunatly the only picture I found was to bad to see anything. (The ROM simm format seems to be the same across every Mac with this kind of...

    ANS 500 Rom

Hello, I recently acquired an ANS 500 in a pretty rough shape, but with some rust fix and cleaning it should be fine. Unfortunatly, there was no cd drive, hard drive, and RAM/ROM sticks. As far as have seen, the ROM stick seems to be mandatory. Can a kind soul with an AWS 500 confirm this...
