So does this mean that I just use QuickTime to capture video through the port?

Hey, What am I supposed to use to capture (or view) video on the Quadra? It's hard drive was wiped at least once before it made its way to me, and any AV software that was on it is no longer on it.

So I should just leave it running the currently installed 7.6.1? OK. Now what software do I use to utilize its video capture capabilities?

I may go back tomorrow with $40 or $50 if I get a chance, and grab some of what's left. Namely that G3 and the Quadras. Perhaps a tape drive. I'm going to call tomorrow morning and find out.

The bizarre thing is I turned it on just now with the intention to leave it on like you suggested, and it came to life and booted into 7.6.1. Now I'm afraid to turn it off.

I want to get that server, but I may not have time to go back, and I'm pretty sure shipping prices for that thing would be obscene.

I can't seem to get the timing for the switch flick right; I still get no video. Now to get a 3.6v battery... I expect it's typical for all the old machines that I get to have been sitting for years and needing new batteries.

Is it a cap problem? Q605 chimes upon powerup but no video, doesn't even respond to Cmd-Opt-Power. Removed all RAM, VRAM, expansion card, and drives and same result.

The funny thing is I happened to net 2 Sawtooths from another former employee of this place 2 weeks ago; those two were completely stock as well, with Zip drives. Using one as a server, running Debian Linux. Installed 10.4 on the other one.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried to give it one last go before ordering a new battery, and found that it booted if used a different stick of RAM from the one I had left in there. Turns out that was preventing it from booting. The Mac then happily booted into OS 8.5.1.

Motherboard is clean, and I get no activity with the video card and all but 1 stick of RAM removed. Pressing the power button once shuts off the computer. That leaves the PRAM battery.

As far as I can tell, it's a stock G3, but its not booting. I get a chime on powerup, and that's it. No video, no HD activity, No CD-ROM activity if I stick in an OSX 10.2 disc. Haven't really played around with it yet, what might be the case?
