Macintosh II revision I've not found reference to

What function does the capacitor serve in the aftermarket mod? I assume it’s just for load regulation?

PowerMac G4 Digital Audio - Install Radeon 9000 Pro Help

As @Phipli said, you still want to remove the old ATI extensions (everything that starts with ATI) and install new ones that work with your card. Just search for “Mac OS 9.x (whichever you’re running) ATI 9000 drivers”.

PowerMac G4 Digital Audio - Install Radeon 9000 Pro Help

Seems like it could be a driver/extension problem. Does it boot with extensions off?

    So, recapping g4 cube psu…

Is this a proactive recap, or is the PSU dead? Just wondering if this is worth doing on a working PSU. I don’t have a lot of experience with the cube - are the PSUs prone to failure?

    Best QS G4 AGP card?

Hmm I didn’t know that. Mine is a flashed PC version and it is rock solid in my MDD.

    Best QS G4 AGP card?

I believe the 7800 GS is supposed to be the “best”, but I tried one (flashed it myself) and it was so hot and noisy, I went back to my trusty 9800 Pro. I use it with the OG 23” Cinema Display using the ADC converter brick. 9800 Pro will be a huge upgrade from your 9000. Halo runs like butter...

    New Macintosh SE

Hmm perhaps my memory is a bit skewed. My SE and SE/30 recaps (4 total) were a good while ago and I've done a lot of other recaps since then with lots of leaky radials.

    New Macintosh SE

Usually it can't be spotted until you take the caps off. The leak is literally underneath them. I just finished a Classic II recap and almost every cap on the analog board, other than the very tiny ones, had a small leak underneath it. This is pretty typical in my experience. Despite the...

    New Macintosh SE

Yeah it’s probably fine near term as I said, but I’ve yet to see a single compact Mac that doesn’t have some leaking under the analog board caps. Cracked solder is also pretty common. Frankly I do the “full treatment” more for fun rather than out of necessity. SE is so solid it might last...

    New Macintosh SE

Depends on your skill level and/or experience. The bare minimum for an SE would be to take out the logic board, remove/replace the old battery, blow/brush out any dust, and inspect the logic board for corrosion clean it up if necessary. The “full treatment” would be to recap the analog...

B&W Studio display 21” Deflection problem

When you say you “checked the capacitors”, I assume you just visually inspected them? Also, when you say “flyback does not shoot”, do you mean it’s not arcing? This doesn’t look like a flyback issue to me. I would try playing with the high voltage adjustment pot (if you can find it - should...

    PM 5500 External SCSI Woes

Just an update. BlueSCSI 2.0 (DB25 version) did indeed work like a charm. So it must not have liked the 1.1a version for whatever reason. Thanks, @croissantking for the advice.

Cache Slot G3 Upgrade - weird reboot?

Nope, it’s the very first one. Probably by design.

Cache Slot G3 Upgrade - weird reboot?

So just out of curiosity I timed it. One test was with the Booster extension enabled (and booting to 400Mhz G3 and with the reboot), and one with extension disabled (and booting to 250Mhz 603e). All other aspects were unchanged. I was booting into OS 9.1, timing it from boot chime to...

Cache Slot G3 Upgrade - weird reboot?

Thanks, @macuserman. In case you couldn’t tell, this is your old machine. It’s been through a full regimen of disassemble, clean, retrobright, full recap, CRT adjustments, and now I’m just pimping it out. Provided hours of tinkering fun so far. The recap was intense, over 80 capacitors in...

Cache Slot G3 Upgrade - weird reboot?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, it does have a working battery and keeps time between power-downs, and the machine is rock solid with or without the accelerator. Sounds like this is probably intended behavior. It doesn't bother me, I've just never seen this before. Thanks again!

Cache Slot G3 Upgrade - weird reboot?

Hey all. I recently acquired an Interware Booster "6454" (G3 400Mhz/1MB) for my new PM5500. It works great and provides about 4 times the performance over the original 250Mhz 603e. The weird thing is, when you first boot the machine, it gets to the part when it starts loading extensions, but...

    PM 5500 External SCSI Woes

I updated my post - yeah it's v1.1a. I'll def look into ZuluSCSI. Thanks again.

    PM 5500 External SCSI Woes

Yeah, that's a good theory. Or possibly the PM 5500/6500 board is more strict/finicky about standards compliance, and other machines are more "tolerant". That might explain why the Apple-branded external CD ROM still works fine, but the (aftermarket hack) BlueSCSI (v1.1) does not. I might...

    PM 5500 External SCSI Woes

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the BlueSCSI DB25 has onboard termination. I also tried changing the SCSI IDs just in case (although I do know there should not be a conflict - the CD ROM is ID 3, and the IDE drive is irrelevant). Lastly, I tried other SD cards in the BlueSCSI. The oddest thing is...
