From what Im seeing and sort of remember, the 8600 came with a 250MHz 604ev on the low end of the scale. The fastest 604e Apple shipped was 233MHz, like you mentioned.

You should do some benchmarks between the different drivers, Hawkeye versus Formac. I wonder if the Formac ones are more refined.

I just wiggle around the mouse. My eyes do catch that moving insect. Like a cat. I think you can set up macOS to 'shake' the cursor, about the same thing but I don't have to set an option that says I'm older.

Yeah, cards that could output two different display were still professional I think at the time (usually had two GPUs on them). I actually saw the dual display ixMicro card on eBay once. I remember the vram packaging was different than the usual Twin Turbos.

For those high resolutions it might be. I won't lie, though. As I've gotten older I sometimes 'lose' where the cursor is :(

Yeah, it was very noticeably faster with 2d than the Rage II in my Powerbase at the time. I do remember using the Hawkeye control panel too. Plus, like has been mentioned, they did have some weird font cache thingie that sped up text (or something like that). I remember the drivers/control...

Just as an aside, I've always wanted to find a Radeon 9100 pic card and try flashing that. You can never find the things though.

I didn't even know there was a Mac-native way to flash them. I did mine back in the day, and the only way back then was the dos flasher way.

That 'Mac' Radeon was probably pulled from an Xserve.

Used M-series Macs to me just seem to have a lot less value than used older gen Macs of yesteryear. I used to look forward to getter the cheaper and more available Powermacs when they were several years old. Older but serviceable.

It's be interesting, but you'd have more luck trying to get an adapter for AGP to PCIe. From what I'm seeing they were vaporware (I just did a quick search, though). That's if MacOS would even know what to do with a AGP to PCIe adapter or a newer-than-it-or-drivers PCIe video card that you...
