Newly recapped Powerbook 160, screen artifacts or typical passive matrix?

The artifacts seem normal. As for the dimming, I need to check my 160 when I get home but from my memory, there was “some” dimming but not much in terms of a smooth adjustment of varying brightness. It was off, one or two mid levels, and then full on if I remember correctly. But I thought there...

SE/30 with a Maxell Battery Surprise

Almost looks like that SE/30 was stored upside down and the battery leaked onto the chassis instead of spilling all over the board.

    Loaded clear SE/30 project completion

Reminds me of the clear pager cases in the 80s. Neat!

Anything to be gleaned from this PB160 photo?

I will concur with what @finkmac said. My display looked the same with no image until recapped. It’s a passive matrix screen so you will see some patchiness as well as what look like artifacts which are in fact just part of the passive matrix experience.

Using a AI service to assist with classic mac programming

I also have found Claude to be more interesting. These shared answers are not exactly the same as what I saw a while back but clearly provide a hint or general direction which is helpful. The point was many of these already have access to Inside Macintosh and tech notes.

Using a AI service to assist with classic mac programming

I've tried a few prompts in the past using ChatGPT and it was providing detailed information from various Inside Macintosh volumes as well as Apple technical notes without any sourcing of content from me. For example, I had asked a question about how to add custom vars to a parameter block...

    Duo 280c ADB Woes

I have not experienced your issue. My 280c works fine with external ADB keyboards/mice through both the duo dock and the mini duo dock. Given you mentioned you have been able to power other devices through that port just fine, that would probably rule out 2 of the 4 pins (VCC/GND) and for your...

A few SE/30 Reloaded Build Questions

+1 on the socket. Gives you options to add a socketed booster/accelerator later and save your PDS slot / space for other things.

Tried a filament print again for the ADB port cover on the 3400c. Came out ok on this attempt. The color match is better than what is shown in the last two pictures below but will need to attempt a better match in the future.

It was the same process as the 500 series keyboard lubrication I mentioned here: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/powerbook-500-series-keyboard.47776/

PowerBook 3400c is almost done. Again, took 3 of them to piece together one fully working and loaded one. The end result is a 240MHz model with full memory (144MB), internal Zip drive, working Lithium battery, new PRAM battery. It has a Samsung screen (also have a working Sharp as well as...

LC III is fixed and working. Missed two broken data lines going to the CPU from the memory. That got the OS to boot. Then found another broken trace for a dram address line that prevented the memory socket from working. Then found a fourth broken trace preventing the VRAM slot from working...

Back to the LC III. Last we left off I had been removing the rust on the power supply, inner shields, etc.. the PSU has been recapped and it's working. Tested it on another board. Went from this: to this and functional: As for the logic board, went from this: to this: Could not...
