Need help diagnosing my PowerBook 170…

You've got a very unique case here due to just how many hours you've put on that thing. You're into the territory where even things like tantalum and ceramic capacitors are likely long past their rated hours, so any number of things could be slightly out of spec enough to cause random flaky...

Power book 180, power supply making tick tick noise

These aren’t as bad but still have cap issues. Have you for sure validated that it’s outputting 7.5V?

Powerbook 1400cs Floppy module completely dead, loose spring found inside

Man, seeing CC_333 with anything other than the iMac G3s feels a little strange!

Power book 180, power supply making tick tick noise

The 100 series 2 amp power supplies have bad leaky caps 100% of the time. Bust it open, analyze the damage, and get recapping.

    Getting a PowerBook 1400 Networked

Yeah, that's the card that @AlpineRaven referenced. There were similar cards made for the PowerBook 190 and 5300, which I believe let you keep the video output port.

    Getting a PowerBook 1400 Networked

I have some Farallon ethernet PCMCIA card which is specifically Mac compatible and works well. You can also use a hacked driver to get the very common 3Com EtherLink III card to work on certain Mac OS versions. See: https://www.floodgap.com/retrotech/mac/enet3c589/ Also, if you have a PiSCSI...

1710av fading away (any hope for saving, or retrofit?)

It's not a scam, it's just a last resort. IIRC the way it works is that they send a jolt of power through the electron gun/guns which "blows off" or burns up the back most layer of degraded/worn out phosphor on the tube, which exposes new phosphor under it which brightens the picture. Whether or...

1710av fading away (any hope for saving, or retrofit?)

Rejuvenation is not really an option. It has a fair chance of killing the tube, and if it does improve things there is a very high chance that it will go back to being dim or even worse within a short amount of time. Usually bad caps will cause picture instability, rather than a perfect but dim...

    interesting haul so far

2300c definitely has vinegar syndrome too, unfortunately. Nice haul though, that should all clean up nicely!

    PowerBook G4 12” Battery Re-cell possible?

Let us know what the main BMS chip is. As Joe said, the BQ series chips are generally able to be made to work after a recell. Gets tricky with some of the stuff Panasonic was using, and anything proprietary of course.

Attempting To Program Something Using LLMs With Zero Knowledge or Skill

I'm an amateur programmer, "learning as I go" and whatnot. I find LLMs helpful when I've got a bug I can't fix. I'll give it my code, ask it to tell me what's wrong, and I make sure I understand what the problem was rather than just blindly trusting anything. 9 times out of 10 it's one tiny...

    eMate Replacement Power Adapter/Battery

Nope! I don't. Haven't ever needed one, and never got one with any of the stuff I've bought. I do have the eMate's software CD-ROM and all the original documentation, so I'll install that on my 3400c and see where that gets me.

    eMate Replacement Power Adapter/Battery

I just got an eMate 300. Battery holds a brief charge but is beginning to leak so it needs to go. The power adapter it came with is an aftermarket 7.5V 2A supply, which works fine so far. No "too much power" errors. Is it going to be an issue and do I need to source a 1.2A supply? I don't have...

    PowerBook Powercord

The 7.5V 2A power supply for the 100 Series PowerBooks fails nearly 100% of the time due to the ELNA-brand capacitors inside of it spilling their guts. There's a specific method where you can use a hammer/mallet and a flat-head screwdriver to cleanly bust the brick open, after which you can...

PB Duo 210 - blank screen after chime, but interrupt works

Can't help with your main issue, but they do not need a working PRAM battery to boot. I believe some/all of the Duos will only boot with one of the two power buttons if the PRAM is dead, but since you are getting power that isn't your problem.

I'll go ahead and add the cap reference to MacDat: https://macdat.net/repair/cap_reference.html Can't wait to see what you accomplish with this project! Edit: The cap reference ZIP file seems to be corrupted - showing as 1K and Windows says it's empty.

Only half of screen showing on PowerBook 100 (red solid color on rest)

I don't know whether or not the voltage load on those caps is enough that same-value tantalum replacement is "not advisable", but as far as I know, that should at worst cause a shortened lifespan for the caps., rather than causing an immediate failure. FWIW, I used tantalums on my PB100 to no...

PowerBook 150 installer woes with CF-to-IDE adapter

I can confirm this works. I moved a 1GB hard disk from my PowerBook 1400 into my 150 (reinstalling the OS of course, but keeping the existing format) and it worked fine. The internal HD format tool is terrible and barely works with any disks other than what the 150 shipped with. You can probably...
